13 SA John Henry Turf (GII)
$750.000 3yo&Up 1 1/4m Turf 3yo 121lbs Older 124lbs
We stay in SoCal and look at a six pack of classic turf handicap types set to go a mile and a quarter in the John Henry Turf (GII). As you would expect for a purse of this size, the magnitude of talent is pretty high. Fall is upon us, and that means we are getting ready for the BC races at DMR, and I’d expect a few of these to be in the field. With that being said, it’s a very evenly matched group, but I’m leaning on Penal Hockey Party to get it done. He’s been having a less that fantastic year, but the barn has stuck to their guns, and he won in a big, big way at KD, taking the KY Turf Cup (GII) and knocking down that massive purse. This one seems to do his best work in the big races, so this fits him, perfectly. I’ll go right next door and give Cascade King a chance to take home the cash. He won back-to-back races before that near miss in the King Edward BC (GII) at WO. The distance could be a bit of a question mark, but he looks to be in fine form, and I don’t think you can overlook him here.
