Small Field Heads to TAM Turf for The Columbia Stakes

  6   TAM   The Columbia Stakes

$125.000   3yo  1 Mile   Turf     120lbs + penalties

Oh, the Ybor stories I could tell…  but let’s stick to horse racing and the $15,000 I had to take back on a plane… nope, let’s not tell that story either, but thanks to KOSH for that one…  We stay on the Pirate Coast and look at the field set to go a mile on the lush TAM lawn in The Columbia Stakes… and I know I’ve told the sangria story, more times than I’d care to share.

Only five in this one, so let’s just try to nail the exacta without a lot of work… I’ll take the rail and go with Zion Birdie as the top choice today.  He was second in the BC Juv Turf (GI) and that’s enough to get my attention, then he closed out his 2yo season with a nice Alw win at CD, and I know it’s hard to fault a second, but I think he should have won that first 3yo start at HOU.  Traffic, closing when he should be closer… never mind me… I like this one.

Let’s go right next door and take the third-place finisher from that Texas Turf Mile race and put Dimple Vate in the second spot.  Gotta love the Big Barn, and this one has been close in a few stakes, since Mb picked this one up, via private purchase.  I think he’s going to run second again today, so let’s put this one on the bottom, just to make Max angry…  NO BOX.
