The Honeymoon Stakes – GIII
6/1/19
SA Race 1 1 1/8M – Turf
Purse $150.000
Three Year Olds Fillies
Only a field of six has been entered for this years running of the grade three Honeymoon Stakes here over the Santa Anita turf course. It is a short field but there is some pretty good fillies in here and it should be an exciting race. Let’s take a look at the field.
1. Steal The Heart (7-2-1-1 $58.700), trained by Samlam
And the first filly we come across in this field right here is making her first career start on the turf. She has been running in pretty rough spots as her last out was the grade one SA Oaks. She ran tenth in there but that was a tough spot. I’m not sure how she will handle the turf though.
2. Island Breeze (5-2-1-0 $23.740), trained by Nakamura Stables
The next filly in the field right here is coming into this spot off of two wins in a row. She just romped by four lengths in an allowance race at Golden Gate where she demolished them. She also likes to gun it to the lead so a slow pace will definitely help her out.
3. Trippi Tip Toe (8-2-2-1 $149.200), trained by Estero Farms
The third filly in the race right here is coming into this spot off of a win in the Sidney at Churchill Downs. That was on the soft turf course and going five and a half furlongs so the stretch out and most likely a dry track will be in play here. She is a quality filly and should be very tough.
4. Nebraska Years (12-2-4-2 $134.480), trained by Alydar Stables
This next runner in the field right here is coming into this race off of a second place finish in q statebred stakes race at Golden Gate. She did not run bad that day but the winner was very impressive that day. If she runs a big race in here she might be able to win it.
5. Monets Garden (9-2-0-2 $31.130), trained by Invicta Group Llc
Next closest to the outside right here and unfortunately this looks like the weakest entry in the field to me. She just got claimed in a statebred twenty five dollar claimer but she was also claimed out of there. Maybe her new trainer has figured her out.
6. Lit Up By The French (8-4-1-0 $80.320), trained by Mb Stables
And now to the final runner in the field right here and this filly is coming into this race off of a last place finish in the grade three Senorita Stakes. She was on the lead that day though and it seems that she likes to come from off of it most of the time. I think if she is off the pace she will have a decent chance.
Summary
Now although this is only a field of six there is some pretty nice fillies in here. My top pick is going to be Trippi Tip Toe as she seems to be the best filly in this race on paper. She looks good and this spot and I think she is set up to run a big race. Good luck to all in the field.
