6 SA Palos Verdes Stakes (GIII)
$100.000 6f Dirt 4yo&Up 123lbs +penalties
A shame that the purse for this important stakes has been cut in half, but a sign of the times in SoCal racing… we look at the field of ten older sprinters set to go six furlongs over the famed SA main oval in the Palos Verdes Stakes (GIII), and a nice field has gathered for this one.
The Card and I agree with most of this one, and we both took High Time as the top choice today. Four wins, all in a row, and a third last season, his only bad race was in the BC Sprint (GI) where he was only two lengths back after getting in some traffic trouble, from the nine post. Those works say he’s ready to fire big and get back into the winner’s circle.
I went with Dorian Gray as the second choice, as that one was lightly raced last season, switched barns, and won his first start for Mb Stables after the swap. That was an Alw race, but he did it in nice fashion and looked gritty down the lane… I think he gets something out of that after being laid-up since Aug… watch him.
Back on the same page, The Card and I both have Neon Delite in the third spot. Four wins last season, including the Phoenix (GII) at KEE, he was eleventh in the BC Sprint (GI) but only three lengths back. He’s a classy type, and that usually floats to the top in these sprint races.
