8 TAM The Gasparilla Stakes
$125.000 3yoF 7f Dirt 120lbs +penalties
Looks like we have to swing by Ybor before driving up to Oldsmar for The Gasparilla Stakes, on Saturday. The Moose Killer’s are on me… I’m headed to the rail for my top selection and took Botched to get the job done here. She’s a perfect two-for-two, looked good rolling at KEE to win the Myrtlewood and the barn certainly knows how to handle a 3yo filly. Let’s stay down inside and put Grand General in the second spot. She won a NY-bred stakes as a 2yo, was close last out at FG facing open stakes company, and certainly looks like a bargain claim. There’s obviously a lot of talent and top notched conditioners in this one, so it could go any number of ways.
Here’s The Field –
She’s undefeated in two trips to the starting gate, breaking maiden at first asking up FL way and then taking down a stakes at KEE, coming back on short rest. She’s been put away since and shows a string of am gallops getting ready for this one. She’s got my attention.
She’s never run a bad race and has been on the board in two stakes after winning a stakes at FL back in the fall. She’s shows a nice late move and that could be handy as she adds a furlong to her norm today.
She looked good winning the Arnaz Stakes at DMR two back, but only beat one last out in the Fern Creek at CD. That DMR stakes win was at today’s distance, and that may be a helpful sign as she was closing last out… does the distance make the difference?
Two wins from this one as she broke maiden at CD and took down PA-bred Alw foes up in Erie. Also shows a couple of on-the-board finishes against PA-bred stakes company, so she certainly has some ability. She was fourth last out at FG vs. Alw foes, so she does need to pick it up a bit to run with these.
She never seems to run a bad race and has been putting cash in the bank at every start. She was tough vs. WV stakes foes, but has moved on to open company and certainly held her own there as well. That was a nice win at GP vs Alw types last out, and she may make some noise here.
The big barn comes into this this one with back-to-back wins, breaking maiden on the lawn at DMR then taking an open Alw race at the bull-ring in CT. She’s been on the board in five of six starts, so you have to give her a look.
Sold prior to this one but she’s won half of her four trips to the gate, breaking maiden at first asking and then a game win at FG last out vs Alw horses. She brought a pretty penny so the new barn certainly likes what they see… can she start paying dividends today?
Nothing worse than a fourth in four starts, breaking maiden at WO vs ONT-bred types and also a pair of runner-up starts. Her fourth was vs. state-bred stakes company, so this may be a tough spot, but she certainly shows some ability, and could improve.
Was doing well prior to venturing into top end stakes company, so the class relief is probably welcomed. Last in the Adirondack (GII) then beat a few while no factor in the DMR Debutante (GI) and the Jasmine (GII) before going on the shelf… can she fire big fresh?
