PEN Mile (GIII) |
$500.000 3yo 1m Turf |
Broke maiden at WO two back going 7f on that turf course, then closed a bit late in the American Turf (GII) at CD when fourth on that afternoon. This barn doesn’t usually just throw any ol’ thing into stakes races so they certainly like him and he looks like the kind that may have his best races in front of him. Could this be his break-out day?
Three wins from his last four races… that’s the good news. The bad news? His only up-the-track race was an eleventh place finish while facing graded horses. He’s back in with them here again, so does he break out of his graded funk or is it more of the eleventh/twelfth/thirteenth type stuff? I’m going to pass on him.
Came running like gang-busters at the end of that TX Mile (GIII) to miss by a length in the runner’s-up position. That was on the main track, which most of his races have been on… but note that he did win his only turf start, an ALW race at TUP back in Dec. So, he seems to like the lawn, has been running well and may be ready to lay down a big race.
Since the Vet paid a visit back in Jan, this one has been nothing but on his toes… four wins in a row including that nice three-length win at GG taking the SF Mile (GIII) in his most recent. The Mb machine has been in a bit of a funk of late from what I’ve seen, but this could be a spot to get back to the dominating ways. Give him a big shot here.
He’s about as consistent as a Rolex watch… first or second in five of six races but he’s never seen stakes company to this point. Both of his wins have come on the turf, so there’s no doubt that he likes the green stuff… now, does he have the class to run with black-type horses? I see him hanging around for at least a while.
The King bounds into this one with a three-race win streak, all coming after the gelding in on New Years Day. He looked solid winning the American Turf (GII) at CD where he used his tactical speed to hang near the pace, the burst by when he was asked to run. All three of those wins have come on the lawn, so you have to think this is a spot for him to keep going.
Nice win last out at CD on their turf, where he got today’s distance in pretty fast time while overwhelming an OptAlw field. Failed as the favorite over the KEE turf in the Transylvania (GIII) but he does show some good black-type races including a fourth on BC Day. He should be in the mix for this one as well.
Nice maiden win at first asking over the BEL turf course and that was a soft strip, making the race all that more impressive. Shows a solid string of mile works as well, and this barn certainly does well with these horses that are lightly raced. I don’t like his post but I do think he is a horse that will be making waves as the months role on.
– Scratch – Declared prior to race day.
