Speedy Conciliatory was first out of the gate and switched leads with Chapter In The Fog until Chapter In The Fog took command under the wire for the first time. The eventual winner shared 2nd with Doc Holiday.
Into the 1st turn, Chapter In The Fog held the lead by a length. Grade came up on the outside to take 2nd. Doc Holiday still ran stride for stride in 4rd. It was Iron Mann on the ail a length behind them, then Jolly Fog, Know How Skeleton, Orange Slice, Apple Revolt and Bronze Saber, Exodus, and Phipps last.
Around the turn and into the backstretch, Grade cut Chapter In The Fog’s lead to ½ length. Doc Holiday and Speedy Conciliatory continued to battle in 3rd, with Iron Mann less than a length behind them in 4th.
Through the backstretch, Chapter In the Fog opened up slightly on Grade. Behind him, Iron Mann caught Speedy Conciliatory and Doc Holiday, and they ran three across the track in third. Jolly Fog ran 2 ½ length behind them, and it was another length and a half back to the rest of the field.
Around the turn, Iron Mann made a run on the inside between Chapter In The Fog, while doc Holiday moved on the outside. Speedy Conciliatory looked trapped. But as the field neared the stretch, Speedy Conciliatory slipped between Grade and Doc Holiday to challenge, and a wall of horses pressed the lead.
They straightened out in the stretch with a furlong to run and Speedy Conciliatory took the lead., Iron Mann charged through for 3rd. From the far outside from the back of the pack, Bronze Saber started eating up ground.
But nobody was catching Speedy Conciliatory today. Iron Mann held on for 2nd a neck in front of Bronze Saber. Orange Slice got up for 4th.
It was the biggest win in his career for Cherrytree Hill Farm’s 3yo homebred. With only 8 starts to his credit, his record stands at 8-3-2-0 $86.520.
Complete Order of Finish:
Speedy Conciliatory – Stalked the pace and took the lead in the stretch.
Iron Mann – Close throughout, finished a close 2nd.
Bronze Saber – Made a big move from 8th in the stretch for 3rd.
Orange Slice – Came from the back of the pack to finish 4th.
Jolly Fog – Finished 5th by a length.
Doc Holiday – In the mix early, but could do no better than 6th.
Chapter In The Fog – Led at every call except the last, then faded to finish 7th.
Apple Revolt Q – Never a factor.
Grade – Second early, but weakened and finished 9th.
Know How Skeleton, Exodus, and Phipps rounded out the field.
