State Police emerges as a big BC Classic hope

The JC Gold Cup – Grade I [BC]
1 1/4 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $750.00 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st   State Police  Smokey Stover             Bejarano R

These horses seem to beat each other on a regular basis and its tough to win two in a row so it was no surprise to see Sate Police reverse his Pacific Classic and metropolitan Handicap form by winning by what in the end was a pretty cosey one length. There were some raised eyebrows when Smokey Stover paid a thousand dollars for this four year old but he is now emerging as one of the main dangers to pretty Ferro in the BC Classic so that trainer will be having the last laugh. He beat Indistinguishable by 5 lengths today and that horse has beaten pretty Ferro twice so i really think we have found a real threat to the potential horse of the year.

2nd   Edwin Drood  Night Rider Stables  Maragh Ro

Two lengths covered the next ten runners home and it was great to see this old champ hold on for second after running right on the speed again. I must admit i thought he was better coming from the back but his new trainer has stuck with these on pace tactics and they paid dividends today. It would be great to see this nearly horse run a big race in the Classic and he took enough scalps today to be right in it come November.

3rd   Laffin Parrot  Mo Mentum Farm   Gallardo A A

What a tough consistent warrior this horse is  running on strongly to get third and once again proving he can live with this sort of grade. If it rains on BC day i will be lumping my  money on him to cause an upset.

4th   Sporty Greyjoy  Saratoga Stud               Albarado R J

Well this horse has been lost in the woods since winning the Pegasus World Cup back in February but bounced back today in one of the most competitive races so far this year for a somewhat remarkable share of fourth.

4th      Combat Wombat      Maxmillion Farm               Hernandez RM

Closer to the pace than when he won the Pacific Classic he faded under the whip today but its hard to say fourth in a grade one of this standing on his fifth start is disappointing. After that Pacific Classic win though we were all thinking wonder horse but i wouldnt be giving up on him yet after two brilliant runs at grade one from a draw that most horses wouldnt get a look in.
