Statement Win for Bear Head in Secretariat Stakes

Secretariat Stakes (Grade 2)- $500.000 Purse
CNL- For Three Year Olds
One Mile on the Turf
August 9, 2025

It was a big win for Bear Head on Saturday, as the gelding delivered an impressive effort in a three-length victory. This was just his second start for Maxmillion Farm after the trainer picked him up in private sales, and he made the most of it! The victory is the second in the race for Maxmillion Farm, who, interestingly enough had his prior winner, Penal Hockey Party, be a horse that he purchased from Martyparty in June, with the Secretariat Stakes being their second start together, just like Bear Head. A Jimenez made a successful trip from BTP to ride this winner, and it is his first in this race. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:32.37, by far the fastest of the three editions of the race held at CNL. Let’s take a look at it now:

(1/4 Mile- :23.40)- Three horses go out to the lead early, and Big Blue will hold a slight advantage for Mb Stables as he runs between horses. His stablemate, Calder, is to his outside, while the longshot from High Voltage, Rolling Rolling rolls along the rail. Our eventual winner from Maxmillion Farm, Bear Head, settles in right behind this trio, and it’s another length to Whiskey Law (Invicta Group Llc), as Medvedev (Sccj Stables) trails the field.

(½ Mile- :46.64)- Big Blue leads the way down the stretch, and Rolling Rolling is able to keep up with him to his inside. The same cannot be said for Calder, as he loses a length to them. Bear Head is content to run in fourth right now, holding a stalking position while running on the rail. Whiskey Law is now two lengths behind him, and it’s another to Medvedev.

(Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- While Big Blue and Rolling Rolling still hold the top two spots, Bear Head is making his intentions known in the turn, drawing closer and looking for some sort of hole to open up. That would happen at the top of the stretch, and A Jimenez could now maneuver Bear Head to come right between them. Calder is fourth and trying to stick around. Whiskey Law and Medvedev were now running together at the back.

(Finish- 1:32.37)- Bear Head wastes no time in the stretch, powering through the opening between the top two and making quick work of them. With no one else looking as a threat, all that was left was to watch Bear Head draw away from the competition and score a very impressive looking three length victory. Rolling Rolling ensures a nice exacta as he prevails in a photo for place with Big Blue, and the late running Medvedev can be seen in the background of that photo. Next is Whiskey Law, and the fatigued Calder.

About The Winner- Bear Head, trained by Maxmillion Farm and ridden to victory by A Jimenez, is a three-year-old gelding by Indistinguishable and is out of the late Paris In Spring. He was bred in New York by Martyparty as a second quarter two-year-old, and was acquired by Maxmillion Farm for $200.000 in a private sale this June. The win is his fifth in 12 starts, his fourth stake win and first graded win. His career earnings are now $823.000.
