In another great race day at the great race place these 4 horses lined up for the Solana Beach Handicap. The weather was perfect as it usually is and the public had put all of its money behind one horse in this race as the gates opened and that was Know How Causeway. As the gates sprung open all 4 horses came out well and then it was clear that there were 2 horses that wanted the lead and a battle up front ensued. Know How Causeway had won this early battle for the lead as he was just ahead of Angstrom who ran the first ¼ mile in 23 and 1. Self Absorbed was running in 3^rd at this same point in the race.   The first half mile was run in 46 and 3 and the running order had not changed as Know How Causeway was showing the way. He had left an opening on the inside which is where Angstorm had started her run at this leader. Self Absorbed was still running in 3^rd. With this hot early contested pace it looked as if the race was going to be setting up well for the late runners. After running ¾ a mile in 109 and 4 the field had bunched up to a length and ¾ between all of them but the running order had not changed at all. The front runners did appear to be tiring on the lead however and it was just a matter if they could hold off the charging closers. In the final 2 furlongs Summer Storm hit her best stride and exploded through a hole and powered away from the field to an easy victory. Self Absorbed moved to the outside and passed the tiring front runners to run on for a nice 2^nd place finish and Know How Causeway held on for 3^rd.
