Sunday 09/08 Stakes Action

9/8/24

4  DMR OT Juv Turf (GIII)

$100.000   2yo    1m Turf    120lbs +penalties

Sunday Stakes Action… we head out to SoCal and look at a field of seven freshmen ready to do battle on the DMR lush lawn in the OT Juv Turf (GIII).  Talk about a wide-open race… we have more maidens than multiple race winners.  I’m taking First To Fight as the top pick.  He’s won both of his starts including an OptAlw race over this track, and he was finding his best stride late in that five-furlong dash… this could be right where he wants to be.  Let’s go right next door and put Mad Jung in the second spot… that one fresh off of a maiden win over this track, at the distance… you know I like home-cookin’ and that’s the story for this one.

Here’s The Field –

  5  DMR Futurity (GI)

$300.000   2yo    7f Dirt    120lbs

Big Sunday Stakes Action where the Surf Meets The Turf, and the youngsters are the name of the game with a field of twelve set to go seven panels in the DMR Futurity (GI)

My abilities in these races is very well documented as not favorable, but Ali won’t play along so it is what it is.  I’m taking Maymum as the top pick off of that closing win over this track in the Best Pal Stakes (GIII).  The gray loves to come from far back, and that can always be a tough thing to love, but I think he just keeps getting better and wins again.

I’ll put Ello Santa in the second spot… He looked good winning the KY Juv and then tired to be fifth in the Bashford Manor.  I think he comes right back here and is right in the middle of things.

I’ll put Comanche Smoke in the third spot… does this one have seconditis or what?  Four consecutive runner-up efforts in some very big races.  He could be the one to beat if he finds just a bit more.

   1    KD The Untapable Stakes

$750.000   2yoF    6 1/2f Turf    122lbs

Out in the field… big races, big purses, big barns and big horses… it’s the young ladies go for a big payday in The Untapable Stakes, a six-and-a-half-furlong dash that carries some serious cash.  Nothing really blows me away in this one, and I will not be surprised by any outcome, but let’s give Belles Conquest the slight edge off of that third-place finish in the Colleen Stakes at MTH.  She was flying late in that five-panel dash, so she my really like the extra distance in this one.  Let’s go one over and keep the picks in the outside posts, which I think is an advantage on this dogleg course and give Rocket Science a shot to be in the picture.  I think this barn has a nice duo, but this one ran what I believe is her best race in her only turf try, a runner-up finish in the Royal Palm at GP.  Her other three races have come on wet tracks, so…

  2  KD KD Juvenile

$750.000   2yo    1m Turf    122lbs

The big day in the field for the youngsters continues as we get a field of ten ready to go a flat mile in the KD Juvenile.  The purse money is spectacular, and that brings out the big boys… and they don’t get any bigger than Mb Stables.  I don’t think Fake Fury will be the favorite, but this trainer/jock combo has been lethal during the KD stakes races, and you are not going to hit me with a stick but so many times.  I like See The Light quite a bit in this one… he was third in the ELP Juv, and I think the move to the grass will fit well with this one.  I’m horrible at these baby races, but the fact that The Card agrees in-part, makes me feel like I’m on the right track.  Let’s see how this one goes.

Here’s The Field –

  2  KD KD Juvenile Fillies

$750.000   2yo    1m Turf    122lbs

The big races just keep coming and we get the girls going a flat mile in the KD Juvenile Fillies, here in the field at KD.  Color me stupid, but I’m not changing the plan… I’ll take Icing On The Cake with the hot trainer/jock duo.  She broke maiden on the SAR grass so it’s not like I’m going out on a limb or anything.  Still, I’m more into it for the hot combo than anything.  I’ll take Queen Mia in the second spot… that one just missed in the Bolton Landing at SAR and broke maiden before that, and she certainly likes to show her speed.  Again, I’m horrible at handicapping these races, so pick your poison and head to the gate… it should be a great one!

Here’s The Field –

1
   Misconduct    Riggins Racing    Lopez P   122   6/1
