Sunday 9/8 Stakes Recaps

9/8/24

4  DMR OT Juv Turf (GIII)

$100.000   2yo    1m Turf    120lbs +penalties

Remember, it’s not IF you lead… it’s WHEN you lead… Alvin Smedley was only in front for about 150-yards, but it was the final 150-yards, and the neck advantage was enough to take Sunday’s OT Juv Turf (GIII) here at DMR.  The Sidley Stud trained 2yo stopped the timer at 1:33.57 for the mile distance, over the firm SoCal Turf.  Always Look Eye set a hot and disputed pace throughout, and just could not hold off the winner, taking the second spot by a neck over another fast closer, First To Fight, then a half length to post time favorite Tank Davis in fourth.  Seven lengths covered the field of seven.

  5  DMR Futurity (GI)

$300.000   2yo    7f Dirt    120lbs

Could Point Given be the early favorite to win the 2025 KYD?  I know, I know… that sounds a bit crazy, but welcome to HRP!  The Fractious trained 2yo closed from the clouds to take Sunday’s DMR Futurity (GI) by a length and certainly move his name up the TC Trail list.  The final running time was 1:21.67 for the seven panels over the Fast main track.  Comanche Smoke had the lead mid-stretch, but really didn’t see the winner coming, taking the second spot by a length over Ello Santa, then another three lengths to Maymun in fourth.  Six lengths covered the field of twelve.

   1    KD The Untapable Stakes

$750.000   2yoF    6 1/2f Turf    122lbs

For those that say closers have no chance…  the tote gets lit-up a bit in The Untapable Stakes as Maxmillion Farm pulls the upset with So Glad Youre Mine, sent off at 15/1 odds.  The lightly raced filly, making only her third start, sure did take to the sod, gobbling them up down the lane to win by three-quarters of a length.  She stop the clock at 1:15 flat for the six and a half furlong test over the firm KD lawn.  This race was wide open in the lane and everyone in the minor placings had a good shot… Dead Rumble took the second spot by a quarter length over My Beautiful Ballon, then a neck to Unbridled Grace in fourth.  Six lengths covered the field of twelve.

  2  KD KD Juvenile

$750.000   2yo    1m Turf    122lbs

Another race, another case for the closer(s) as the top three spots go to off-the-pace types… and as predicted, the trainer/jock combo stays hot as Suit And Tie gets the job done for Mb Stables, taking the KD Juvenile by three-quarters of a length while stopping the timer at 1:33.42 for the flat mile over the firm turf.  Zion Birdie was flying home late, and edged out Apples To Aces by the narrowest of margins, second and third.  It was three-quarters of a length back to Fake Fury in fourth, and only four lengths covered the field of Ten.  Trojan Horse, the seventh place finisher, was deactivated after the race.

  3  KD KD Juvenile Fillies

$750.000   2yo    1m Turf    122lbs

D J C Racing Stables keeps the non-speed favoring trend going with Lucille closing from mid-pack to take Sunday’s KD Juv Fillies by three quarters of a length while stopping the timer at 1:33.74 for the mile on the firm turf.  Dismissed by the public at nearly 15/1 odds, the bay filly moved up quickly to take over with a sixteenth to run and edge pace-setter Not Yet for the victory,  It was a neck to Give Me A Reason in third and the same margin to Eighteen Ninety Two in fourth.  Seven lengths covered the field of ten.
