7 BEL The Acorn (GI)
$500.000 3yoF 1m Dirt 122 lbs
This one didn’t go the way I thought it would, but there was no doubt that Our Athletes’ Sundress was set to run a big race, and a big race she did run, sitting mid-pack early, moving up on the turn and getting under the wire in front by a length to take The Acorn (GI). She travelled the flat mile in 1:344, chalks up here second grade one win in her last three starts and was surprisingly dismissed at almost 12/1 odds. Slickmoment Laga took the second spot by a quarter length over post-time favorite Power Walk, with Notorious Return a half length back in fourth.
Sundress is a 3yo gray filly by Cherokee Sunset – Shake It Off, by Quench, and she was bred in Ky by her owner, Our Athletes. This was her fourth win from eleven starts and she now has lifetime earnings of $714.400, with $564.000 coming this season. She is certainly a horse to keep an eye on through the summer. Congrats to the connections!

Sundress mid-pack early 4p, moved up on the turn 5p, engaged leader at the furlong marker, pulled away late. Slickmemoment Laga sent from the gate, set pace to the furlong marker, headed, could not go on with winner. Power Walk moved to rail racing off of the pace early, split horses 3p moving into the turn, moved to 4p for the drive, evenly late. Notorious Return chased the leader to the far turn 3p, moved to 4p for the drive, flattened out. E Road was not a factor. Foregone Conclusion saved ground, evenly. Soviet Sensation tracked pace 5p, moved to 6p through the turn, no late interest. Mag Ol trailed, not a factor. Feral Impact was outrun. Break From Holly up close, tired. Secret Eyes was outrun.
