Untapable (KYO)- $100.000 Purse
FG- For Fillies Two Years Old
One Mile and Seventy Yards on the Dirt
December 21, 2024
The Untapable was one of those races where the field looked balanced, and there were no clear favorites. That could be seen with the ending odds of the horses, so who would it be that would step up and get the win and the KYO points that went with it? Our winner would be a horse that was going long for the first time, but certainly had all the looks of a horse that would enjoy stretching out. That would be Sune Lee, trained by Aer Stables, coming here off a win in the Lady Finger Stakes. Not surprisingly, it was close at the wire, but Sune Lee will get Aer Stables, and jockey M Franco their first win in the race. Congratulations to them! The race was won in a time of 1:39.98, the second quickest in the race’s history! Before I get into the recap, I just want to thank everyone for another year of reading these articles as we head into the SRF’s Holiday Break. I wish everyone a Happy Holiday season! Now, let’s get to the race:
(1/4 Mile- :23.38)- It’s close at the start of the race, as both High Voltage’s Love Beer and Jerry Garcia Racing’s Miss Alligator run well early, and it’s Love Beer, narrowly, at this point. Rare Vintage is within a length of them while running in the third lane for Nakamura Stables. There’s a group of four stalkers, and with the upper hand of that group is the eventual winner of the race, Sune Lee, for Aer Stables. She has the Mb Stables- trained Toasting on her outside, and Victorian Era, out of Crocker Ggs, to her inside, and Tactical Spin on the rail for Alydar Stables. Next is Jessies Blues, for South Shore Stables, and the final four run alongside one another. From inside to outside, they are Hot Cheddar (The Sidley Stud), Expert Timing (TwinTowersRacing), Elecktra (Alydar Stabes), and Fire Storm (D J C Racing Stables).
(½ Mile- :47.14)- The field will head down the backstretch with Love Beer still holding a slight advantage over Miss Alligator on the front end. Rare Vintage settles in behind these two, and moving forward from the group that she had been running with is Sune Lee. Now, she is third and running on the rail behind Love Beer. Toasting is fifth, by herself behind Rare Vintage. Next in line come Tactical Spin and Victorian Era, with Jessies Blues and Fire Storm. Remaining at the back are Eleckta, Hot Cheddar, and Expert Timing.
(Top of Stretch, 2F To Go)- Working their way around the turn, Love Beer has won the battle with Miss Alligator and will now hope to finish strong. Miss Alligator is still second, but Sune Lee was clearly looking for her time to strike. She was beautifully stuck to the rail during the turn, and then moved over just enough for the stretch run to potentially move to the outside of Love Beer. Meanwhile, Rare Vintage was backing out, but Toasting was still in good form with a clear lane in front of her to take advantage of. Tactical Spin advanced a little bit, but did not have a lot of running room at this juncture of the race. Victorian Era ran in the middle of the field, lacking a push. Fire Storm, Jessies Blues, Hot Cheddar, Eleckta, and Expert Timing all still ran at our near the back and needed to hit their best stride now in order to make an impact.
(Finish- 1:39.98)- With a furlong to go, Love Beer was trying to hang on, but both Sune Lee and Toasting were looking strong, with the latter doing so significantly on the outside. Room would open up on the rail for Tactical Spin, as well, and this filly was poised at last to take advantage of it and make her own winning bid. Miss Alligator was losing the fight to these but perhaps could hang for a piece of the purse. Approaching the wire, Sune Lee would complete the pass of Love Beer, but it was not over yet for her as Tactical Spin was coming on strong. Toasting, on the extreme outside seemed to now be losing the battle to them. At the wire, it would be tight, but Sune Lee would get the nod on Tactical Spin in a photo, with Love Beer doing enough to remain third in a show photo with Toasting. Elecktra passed several on the outside to be fifth, with Miss Alligator struggling late and dropping to sixth narrowly over Victorian Era. The rest of the running order will read Fire Storm, Hot Cheddar, Rare Vintage, Jessies Blues, and Expert Timing.
About The Winner- Sune Lee, trained by Aer Stables and ridden to victory by M Franco, is a two-year-old filly by War Chant and is out of Chop Stick. She was bred in New York by Aer Stables as a first quarter two-year-old, and they have been together throughout! Congratulations to the connections! The win is her second in five starts and first stake win. Her career earnings are now $132.000.
