It was about a year ago this week where Shes A Super Freak would pick up the biggest win of her career, winning the Davona Dale Stakes at GP. That is a race that also ran today, but a year later, this filly was on the other side of the country, looking to pick up a win in the Grade 1 Beholder Mile. Not many felt she would, as she would be the longest shot on the board, at 26/1 when everyone else was at 5/1 or lower. That would not mean anything for her, as she earned herself another huge career win by edging out Miss Steel Mazula. It is the first win in the race for both the trainer, YME Stable, and the jockey, R Chirinos. Congratulations to them! The time of the race was 1:35.10, the third quickest winning time when run at this distance. We did have a notable scratch in this race, as Fashionable would not make it to the starting gate. Here’s a look at the race!

(¼ Mile- :23.37)- Smokey Stover’s Z Command is the quickest out of the gate, and after a battle with TwinTowersRacing’s Lady Narloff, she pulls out to a length and a half lead, leaving that rival to be in the second position. Lady Narloff would have Strawberry, from Mb Stables, begin to pull up to her outside. Our eventual winner, Shes A Super Freak, would run in the fourth spot for YME Stable but still only about two and a half lengths from the front. Hot Summer (D J C Racing Stables) ran right beside her, and it was one length back from them to Miss Steel Mazula (Nakamura Stables).

(½ Mile- :46.80)- We head down the backstretch with six horses being content to hold their lines and not make any kind of move, so we don’t see any real action here. Getting closer to the turn, we would start to have some lane shifting as jockeys looked to find a preferred line to make their move, either in the turn, or to prepare for the stretch. Z Command still led, with Lady Narloff and Strawberry stalking her. Shes A Super Freak and Hot Summer were still about three lengths from the lead, and Miss Steel Mazula was close behind them.

(Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- We start to see a little more action now, as both Strawberry and Lady Narloff advance to pull up right alongside the legendary Z Command. There would be a little bit of an opening on the rail for Shes A Super Freak, who was only a length behind the top three, and in very good position. Hot Summer and Miss Steel Mazula were still close, as well, as this was never a race with a lot of separation between front and back throughout.

(Finish- 1:35.10)- With about half a furlong to go, we had a five way battle for the lead, which when you have six horses, is pretty exciting! Z Command was trying to hang on, and battling as hard as we’d expect her to, while Strawberry and Lady Narloff tried to grab the lead from her. Shes A Super Freak was able to hold the rail and it was starting to look as though it would be either her or Strawberry that would end up being the best. But a gap was present between Z Command and Lady Narloff, and that would be used by Miss Steel Mazula as she began to gain quite a bit of ground. Hot Summer was six wide, but not able to get up and join the others. Closing in on the wire, Shes A Super Freak would be able to outkick Miss Steel Mazula in the final moments to pick up the big win, in a photo finish. They are about a length ahead of a three way photo for third, that sees Z Command defeat Lady Narloff and Strawberry. Hot Summer was a length and a half behind them.

About The Winner- Shes A Super Freak, trained by YME Stable and ridden to victory by R Chirinos, is a four year old filly by the late Proven Commodity and is out of Sadie Lynn. She was bred in California as a yearling by YME Stable, the only trainer for which she has ever known! The win is her sixth in 15 starts, her third stake win, and second graded win. Congratulations to the connections! Her career earnings are now $851.200.
