Swashbuckling Winner in BC Juvenile Fillies

The Saturday half of the Breeders Cup started with fourteen dynamic young fillies tearing up the KEE track in the $2,000.000 Grade I BC Juvenile Fillies at 1 1/16 mile, and 1:42 later Australia Wide’s favoured Hawaiian Pirate came tearing through the stretch to get up in time to score a nose victory over Pristine Stables’ Notarized Kate with EasyMoney Stables’ Wicked Heat a half-length back. For the owner of Australia Wide, it had to be a sweet return to the game after taking time off for real life work requirements.

Hawaiian Pirate took her time early on laying back in seventh and never getting too far of the rail until the turn home, worked her way up steadily throughout and exploded late, storming through to nail the leaders at the wire, earning her third win in four starts and boosting her earnings to $1,485.000, and reminding all of the power of Night Mare Racing as a breeder.

Notarized Kate broke out of the gate in the same position she would eventually finish, dropped back a little before working her way back to prominence and pressing the winner to her very best. Notarized Kate has now finished first or second in all of her seven starts, and introduced us to La Bahia Stables breeding program.

Wicked Heat also broke out of the gate prominently before dropping back and rallying late to come within a half-length of victory for owner EasyMoney Stables who has been here since 2004. In her six races Wicked Heat has never been out of the money.

Sarah Stables’ Disney Music, a 22-1 long shot, exploded from the gate in front and led the field from there to the stretch, dueling with Plucky Elmo the whole way until that one took over. She continued on down the lane gamely and held on to be beaten only a length at the end.

Heavens Own’s Plucky Elmo dueled for the lead every step of the way, taking the lead coming into the stretch, and continued on with courage for finish only a length back.

Jerry Garcia Racing’s Aldonza broke alertly, dropped back and closed consistently throughout to finish in the grouop that was a length back.

D J C Racing Stables’ Lea was outrun early and closed gradually to finish two lengths back.

The Sidley Stud’s Technomin was outrun.

Bigking’s Drill was off awkwardly, rushed up to be in contention at the half and tired.

The others were never a factor.
