The GP Sprint Championship – Grade III
6 1/2 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $100.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.
1st Sweep The Event, trained by D J C Racing Stables
There is no doubt this is a very good sprinter and the way he gutted out this
half length win shows that at his best he could easily take out the top sprinting
honours this year. However, you must take into account the unpreditable nature of
HRP and the fact that the draw is so improtant in these type of races. Casually
out if the gate the fact that he was already on the rail allowed him time to relax
and find his stride and that energy reserve came in very handy down the stretch.
Today all the pieces fell in place for him, which he richly deserved, and with the
same draw there is no reason he cant rack up a few wins this year.
2nd B N Ravishes, trained by Tiratzo
Didnt have such as easy trip as the winner and ran a great race for his new owner.
Weaving through the field he found gaps and ran on strongly suggesting he is well
up to this grade and a very good buy at $150.000. I am not saying he couldve beaten the
winner today but who knows what will happen the next time they meet.
3rd Five Star Five, trained by Harrell Racing
What a tough horse this is and he showed again today that he has a big heart. In a
similar position to the winner throughout he was right in it with 100 yards to run
but once again his lack of a turn of foot found him out and he ground to the line
just under a length behind the winner.
4th Power And Money, trained by BigKing
Back over a sprint trip and a much better run from the four year old. Taken back
early on from his wide draw he had a lot of traffic to negotiate before finally
getting into fourth. He has plenty of scope and could build on this good run but
i dont think he wouldve beaten the winner even with a cosy run so the key may be to
give this one a little time before taking this sort of grade on again.
5th Super Sexy Sanny
This grand old campaigner got a bit lost in the pack early on and left himself too
much to do in the end. There is still plenty of miles on the clock though and i
wouldnt be surprised to see him turning the tables on a few of these as the season
wears on.
6th Baffle
Was right in it throughout but just flattened out at the end.
7th Mars
Powered forward by the wide gate speed push he led them for a fair way before giving
up down the stretch. This wasnt a bad effort but he is proving a difficult read these
days.
8th Break Fast
Was close enough if good enough but just wasnt today.
9th Silver Swillie
Looked a little outclassed by a strong field.
10th Owen Wolff
Oupaced early on he never really got into it.
11th T S Ten
Like Mars he was catapulted forward from teh wide gate but didnt last home.
SUMMARY
A great win in good style by the winner but with trip and draw meaning everything at HRP
i wouldnt be surprised to see this form mixed up as the season continues.
