The Davona Dale Stakes – Grade II [KYO]
1 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $215.000 Filly 3 Year Olds.
1st Tactical Spin Alydar Stables Geroux F
The stable is having a stellar year and picked up another big Saturday win with this filly who is starting to look like a real KYO type. She was very impressive in winning the Forward Gal over seven furlongs the time before this and was equally impressive over the mile today suggesting the extra trip will not be a problem. She has a very nice running style and a good turn of foot, two essential qualities and this relationship she has struck up with F Geroux is great having won three from three with them in the saddle.
2nd Heart Of Joy Royalty Stables Moore R L
Pushed forward from her wide draw but had to go fairly hard to lead and that effort made her vulnerable at the end. She hasn’t had too many favors from the draw monster in her last few starts but one feels with a more favorable draw she could easily make the KYO field and would be a good chance with a more economical trip.
3rd Escapist Williams9 Hernandez R M
Only ran a couple of weeks ago when dead heating for third in the SUN Oaks and it may have been that effort that blunted her finish at the end of this race. Like the SUN Oaks she stuck on well but didn’t quicken and the jury is still out as to whether she needs more ground or less.
4th Atomic Fury Red Fox Farms Perez Edg
The outside gates dominated this race, and this one pushed hard to get the lead but couldn’t make it to the front. Settling into a close stalk she found it too tough at the end weakening into fourth, but this was still a decent effort, and one feels when she settles into a more comfortable running style that there is a good win to be had.
