Evening Jewel Stakes ($200.000 Purse)
SA- For Fillies Three Years Old Foaled In CA
Six and a Half Furlongs on the Dirt
April 4, 2020
While most of the virtual racing world was focused on the bigger races of the day, there were three trainers with a rooting interest in the Evening Jewel Stakes, a CA-bred sprint for three year old females. Team 7 Illusions would pull off the win with a filly that he might want to get around to naming. It’s hard to get excited, and honestly, to give respect to this horse without it having a name. Congratulations to the trainer, who wins the race for the first time. It is the second win for jockey D Van Dyke. The race was run in a time of 1:15.80. Here’s a look at it!
1st- 3- I Won A Stake, Please Name Me (3/5)- Our unknown winner from Team 7 Illusions did not press the pace early, and elected to be 2-3 lengths off the lead in the early stages. Maintained her position moving into the turn before beginning to advance midway through it. At the top of the stretch, she had poked a head in front of Pink Attack for second. Maintained a strong stride in the stretch, passing Golden Niagra with just under a furlong to go, and holding on over Cherokee Duchess to get the name-earning win!
2nd- 4- Cherokee Duchess (1/1)- The entry from Allinthegate went to the back at the start of the race, and stayed there for there throughout the backstretch, and into the turn. At about the time her unnamed rival began moving up, she did as well. Still fourth at the top of the stretch, but just two and a half lengths from the lead. Ran well in the stretch, but was never able to make up the length she had been behind the unnamed.
3rd- 1- Golden Niagra (30/1)- Went right to the lead for Maxmillion Farm, having some company alongside her in the form of stablemate, Pink Attack. Eventually she pulled away from her, and would lead the way into the turn, running half a mile in :46.01. At the top of the stretch, she was vulnerable, but tried to hang on the best she could in the stretch. However, once she was passed, she really packed it in.
4th- 2- Pink Attack (12/1)- Not a good day for Maxmillion Farm, who paid double the entry fee in order to get this race to run. Pink Attack started well and ran alongside Golden Niagra before retreating into a stalking position, a spot she would hold up until they reached the stretch. At that point, she decided her race was over and was no where the winner at the end.
About The Winner- The victorious horse is a three year old filly, trained by Team 7 Illusions, and had D Van Dyke aboard. She was bred in Califonia by Jive Inc., and acquired by Team 7 Illusions in private sales for $30.000 in mid-February. She now has two wins in five starts, with earnings of $142.770.
