For those that say closers are dead, SA was not a good spot for you to gamble on Saturday…  after Albaquirky closed from the stars to take the Kilroe Mile (GI) on the grass, Fractious‘ Team Leader said “hold my beer” …looking hopelessly beaten as they headed into the far turn, he began a march, being taken to the far outside, then unleashed a kick that the others just didn’t have an answer for… taking the San Felipe Stakes (GII) by a half-length, stopping the clock at 1:45.11 for the mile and a sixteenth, over the wet (Muddy) main oval.  Im Sorry So Sorry also closed a late gap and certainly made a race out of it, but had to settle for the second spot, a length in front of Quick Knight in third, and his stable mate Influence a neck back in fourth.  Eleven lengths covered the field of twelve.
