Sent off at odds of 19.30 to 1, Techfluence High rallied through the KEE stretch to take the G1 BC Juvenile Fillies Turf on Friday. The daughter of Techfluence (o/o High On Haggis) had previously taken the $100.000 OTJF Turf at DMR prior to running 5th in the G3 Surfer Girl at SA last month. On Friday, The Sidley Stud-trainee got the trip she wanted and capitalized on the plan her trainer had laid-out. “She ended-up exactly where I was aiming for. I set Spankersville on the same forward instruction, so I thought I may have made a mistake with her but both races worked out well.”
Techfluence High would be fifth and just a couple lengths off of the contested pace being set by Greek and Crystal Cave. The winner, who broke from stall nine, was just two-wide throughout the opening quarter-mile and appeared to be in an excellent rhythm as they started down the backside. As Coping Mechanism made an early three-wide move to challenge the front-running duo, Techfluence High reduced her deficit while approaching the final bend.
As the field readied to exit the far turn, Techfluence High had to halt her progress as she waited for a seam to appear. Though jockey D.E. Centeno didn’t panic, his mount’s stalled momentum gave Broadway Lady an opportunity to move up the rail and get first run on the frontrunners at the same time that Spun Around was looming boldly from the center of the course. Taking advantage of her rider’s poise, Techfluence High immediately filled the void created by Greek as the latter drifted out ever-so-slightly.
The final furlong turned into a three-horse race. Broadway Lady had gotten the jump on Techfluence High but the latter was erasing that advantage with every stride. Spun Around was widest of all, but she was still grinding away from the center of the KEE course. Techfluence High surged to the front just inside the sixteenth pole and gradually drew away to post a 3/4 of a length victory over Broadway Lady with Spun Around just a head short of the runner-up. Greek, who ran hard the whole way, was another two lengths back in 4th.
Techfluence High completed the mile in 1:33.65 to run her record to 8-3-0-3 and increased her earnings to $734.000. While G1 and BC victories are always sweet, this one was especially meaningful for The Sidley Stud. “I have to thank Alex (Winning Link Stables), the breeder, for completing the match-up for me. It was one of the match-ups I looked forward to when retiring Techfluence.” Congratulations to the G1 BC Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Techfluence High and The Sidley Stud!
