San Marcos Stakes – Grade II
1 1/4 Mile Turf Stake Purse $200.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.
1st Technic Fractious Fuentes Ru
This new race engine is certainly giving those on speed types a better chance and this one is a great example of that. Drawn 10 in the Pacific Classic he was taken way out the back and never put in the race, drawn 6 in the Fort Lauderdale he was stuck in mid-pack and ran on to be third. Today despite the wide draw he ran like he did from a good draw in the DMR Derby going to the lead and holding on. I think that is where we will the biggest swings in form in the coming months and i think horses like this will be the ones to benefit.
In the end the three lengths he won this by was very impressive ad even at this early stage i think he will be a strong contender come BC time.
2nd Slo Mo Maxmillion Farm Lopez P
Though he was beaten fair and square once again the turf king managed to pull off a remarkable result with a horse that has been pretty ordinary to date. Beaten in $10 and $7 claimers last year he was put away for a long time whilst Maxmillion fed him the green magic dust and sure enough he came out and doubled his lifetimes earnings in one race. Where this one will end up is anyone’s guess but it is clear he is much improved.
3rd Hollywood Niner Nolespan Racing Saez L
A solid effort running on into third but one has to wonder why this horse that had been so impressive off the front in his last two suddenly turned into a closer. Maybe it was instructions, maybe it was the gate speed of the new engine we will only find out in his next race.
4th Going Gone John Henry Gutierrez Mario
I thought this trip may be a bit beyond this veteran and after stalking the leader he looked a tired horse in the final quarter. I am sure when he goes back to the mile we will see him back to his best.
