7 WO WO Mile (GI) [BC]
$1,000.000 3yo&Up 1m Turf 3yo 120lbs Older 123lbs
North of the border we go, it’s a big week of racing up here in Canada and this is a big purse as we look at the field of ten set to go a mile on the WO turf in the WO Mile (GI), and this one has BC implications. It’s a very evenly matched group in my eye, so I’m going to let the Green Card do the handicapping today. They say Chaparral Cowboy is the place to plunk down your wagers. He was fourth in the BEL Derby (GI) last out, but I can see where the mile distance may be better suited for him. He won the DeMille Stakes (GIII) at DMR at this distance, and also won the Pennine Ridge (GII) at a mile and an eighth. We go to the far outside post and Gallant is their second choice. He just missed in the AP Million (GI) at CNL in his most recent, and certainly loves the lawn. He’s been flashing speed, and it will be interesting to see what the tactics are for this one. We stay towards the outside and Giannis is the third selection… he’s won three of his last four including the King Edward BC (GII) over this track. He was also second in the Connaught Cup Stakes (GII), again, over this course… so you know he’s fond of the dogleg.
It looks like a wide-open affair, so grab a cold-snack and let’s get down to the rail.
