Ten Sophomore Fillies to the Gate for The Busher

We head to New York for a big weekend of stakes action and the filly side of TC prep races, but isn’t both sides filly sides?  We look at the field for The Busher, a flat mile stakes on the main track and we have an interesting group set to go post-ward.  The Green Card put a horse on top that was dead last in her most recent, Bahrain.  Now don’t be fooled, she’s run some big races including a a pair of stakes at WO, so she’s better than that most recent.  Add in that OP can be a wonky type of a track and I can see why she’s the top pick.  Right next door is Zola, and she’s been on the green stuff all of her racing career, so this should be an interesting spot for her.  Broomstick Storm just missed down at TAM and she’s never really run a bad race.

It’s a nice field, so let’s get a good spot to watch this group go.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Cb Lady

 Maxmillion Farm

   Cohen D   122   8/1

She broke maiden at GG then posted a trio of fair efforts, showing a fourth in the Rags To Riches, likewise in the Golden Rod (CD), both at CD, then a near miss (DH) runner-up finish in the Suncoast at TAM, in her most recent.  She looks like a solid type and should be looked at, especially if you want some value.

2
   Wicked Ways    TwinTowersRacing    Lopez P   122   10/1

Won back to back races breaking maiden at BTP, getting home by four that day, then came right back to beat Alw horses at LAD.  She closed late but was fifth in the Rags To Riches, tired to be fifth in the Starlette (GI) and likewise, got weary late in the Ruthless in her most recent.  She’s going to have to turn that around to be part of this.

3
Wander    Mb Stables    Murphy Ci   122   10/1

Another that shows a pair of wins from eight starts and she has done most of her damage on the lawn.  Broke maiden on the BEL grass then was off of the board in both the Jasmine (GII) at KEE and ninth in the Durante (GIII) at DMR.  She closed out her 2yo season with a runner-up effort vs OptAlw types, then beat the same at GP in wire to wire fashion.  If you like the turf to dirt idea, she may be the one for you.

4
   Opulence    Acber Farms    Bejarano R   122   8/1

Broke maiden at second asking, getting the win over this track.  She got home in fairly quick time and could be any type.  The barn must think a lot of her because this is straight to the deep end of the pool.

5
   Broomstick Storm    Arindel    Gomez J A   122   9/2

Only one win but a trio of runner-up efforts including last out in the Gasparilla at TAM where she led to deep stretch before missing by a neck in that one.  Only her sixth start today so she should still have room to grow and must be give a shot to get home first.

6
   Kaeko    Allinthegate    Jaramillo E   122   12/1

Another that had back to back wins breaking maiden at SA then beating Alw types at ELP, but she shows a 6-6-4 vs stakes company in her last three, so it’s obvious that she needs to step up her game to be part of this one.

7
   Upstate    Smokey Stover    Elliott S   122   4/1

Yet another with a pair of wins, breaking maiden on the Ohio turf then winning on a sloppy strip at CD vs. Alw types.  She’s been close in a trio of stakes since that, a fourth vs. NY-breds over this track, then in open company here in the Busanda then a near-miss second (DH) in the Suncoast at TAM last out.  She’s certainly one to consider today.

8
   Zola    Royalty Stables    Talamo J   122   5/2

She’s been making her living on the sod but switches over to the main track today looking to right the ship a bit.  Only a maiden win but she was second in the KD Juv Filly, third in the Jasmine (GII) at KEE, runner-up in the BC Juv Filly Turf (GI), third in the Blue Norther at SA then tired to be seventh last out at GP.  I think she bounces back from that race and like the move to the main strip… watch her.

9
   Bahrain    Waldo    Cancel E   122   3/1

She’s run some big races and she’s thrown some bad ones and it looks to be a spot where she’s on the up-tick of an up and down career.  She won the My Dear and the Mazarine BC Stakes (GIII), both north of the border, but she’s also run some forgettable race including that last of ten in her most recent at OP.  Is this a better spot?

10
Peppermint Angel    Ace Racing Stable    Gutierrez R   122   6/1

Changed hands a couple of times, once by auction and once by tag, but won the LA Futurity – Fillies then tired to be seventh in the Martha Washington at OP in her most recent.  Her best could make her tough, so she better come with both barrels loaded today.
