Tenrikyo dead heated with Laffy Crack in the Hirsch in August, but even though both qualified for the BC Distaff off that race, Tenrikyo went to the Locus Grove and now takes on five contenders in the Dream Supreme. She is shortening up for this contest after a string of starts over a mile, but even so she has to be regarded as the one to beat.
Here’s the field:
#1 Tenrikyo (Smokey Stover) Won the Hirsch Stakes (G1) two starts back in a dead head with Laffy Crack, then finished third in the Locus Grove in September, both at a mile and a sixteenth. In fact, the last six of her races have been at that distance. Shortens up here and has to be considered a major contender.
#2 Story To Tell (Mb Stable) Winner of the $135.000 Shine Again, finished third in the PID Masters Stakes (Grade 2) last start. Has been doing really well this year with three wins in six starts but may not be up to the competition.
#3 Commanding Jane (Night Rider Stables) Won the $125.000 Sweet Briar Too in August. Has not been able to get back to the winner’s circle in graded company since last year’s Nassau, a race she finished fifth in this year. Still, she could have a say in this one.
#4 Secrether (Ekli Stable) Graded winner, but another one who hasn’t had much luck at that level lately, except for a second in the Whimsical Stakes (Grade 3) in May. Will need to bring her A game to win against these.
#5 Smoke Rising (Rampage Stable) Winless in seven starts this year, allowance placed on several occasions. Seems a bit outclassed here.
#6 Last Lady (Lindeman Prairie) Has not been doing her best racing lately. Maybe her best effort so far this year came in her last start, the TC of America (Grade 2) where she finished third. Another one who needs a big effort.
Picks: 1-2
