With the penalties in this race it is more of a handicap than a handicap but the two top weights get the best draws so it may negate much of the disadvantage. This filly has been doing well on the state bred circuit and going on her run in the Ladies Handicap last time where she is no worse off with Milfie who she beat she should again get very close. I think the mile suits her and if she can get a nice stalk from this draw she may overcome her penalty.
2 Pennies Arindel Alvarado J
Carries what looks like an impossible weight to win with but she does get the coveted two box so that may help her cause. A grade three winner over this trip she also ran well in the grade one Cotillion from a nasty draw so the class is there. Hard to pick with 129 but certainly capable of running well.
3 Hollywood Beach Babe South Beach Racing Vargas J A
Her works suggest she can get right into this but her form is all at a lower level. However as we all know there is no such thing as a lower level here at HRP and her form in tough claimers over the mile isnt as far behind as it looks on paper. She will need to up her game but a good draw will help.
4 Miffie Night Rider Stables Cancel E
Still a maiden but that means nothing here and she ran on nicely to be fourth in the Ladies Handicap off bottom weight last time when running out of her grade. She has a few lengths to find to trouble these but having said that a good trip and who knows.
5 Frenched Sorrow Ace Racing Stable Davis D
A lightly raced consistent sort i liked her run last time in the La Verdad Stakes after being claimed for $16.000 in the race before. That run suggested that a mile would suit her and she may just be a good bet at the weights. I think the stable has found a good chance here.
6 Spicy Junction Arindel Franco M
Just behind Frenched Sorrow in the La Verdad she was flying home from a poor draw but gets the same problem again today. Her speed figures and works suggest improvement so in a tight looking race she may be the answer.
SUMMARY
If the weight stops On The Flop then i rather like Spicy Junction and Frenched Sorrow to get through.
