The WV Breeders Classic (P1)
CT Race #8 1 1/8m Dirt Stake
Purse $500.000 For Three Year Olds And Upward Foaled In WV
1 Galvaston, trained by Hay Makers Inc
This old fella has been around the block a few times with eleven wins in his thirty four race career. A close ninth in the CT Classic back in April was better than it looked as he was drawn wide and on pace for much of the race but he has struggled a little since and there must be fears that his career is coming to an end. Expect him to lead off this draw and if he is back to his best he will run a race.
2 Dancing Officer, trained by Mb Stables
These races often throw up these kind of entries, a twenty dollar claim who cant win an overnight but gets in here with a weight allowance and some fair works so must have one of those ‘HRP’ type chances.
3 Gentile ll Buono, trained by Sc luciano
The easy winner of the Durham Cup Stakes last time out he is certainly the form horse in the race and with the three year old allowance to boot s sure to start favourite. He has certainly come a long way since his last place in an LS allowance just four months ago but that last run looks good enough here.
4 Prince Bishop, trained by Maxmillion Farm
Consistent in overnights he has been running well at a much lower grade than this. His last work was quick and with very little difference in class between a low track allowance and a $500 stakes race he could well surprise at big odds.
5 Blue Eight, trained by Grimley
Ran a close sixth in the Dandy back in July and was bought on the strength of that for $350. He made no show in the Travers in his first start for the new stable but this is easier and his works suggest he will be the one to test the favourite.
6 Sky Heights, trained by Kopites
The stable is hitting form and this one ran a very nice race in the O Brien last time suggesting his purchase price of $125 was pretty fair. The outside post will be his Achilles heel but if the trainer can find some way to get him in a stalk he may be hard to beat.
SUMMARY
This is a much better race than on first glance. Of course it will be between the three year olds but the question is will race day form win or work times. Sky Heights and Blue Eight have been working super but Gentile ll Buono was super impressive last time out. You could easily make a case for Prince Bishop on his last work but i will stick with one of the first three mentioned to fill the top three places.
