The Brown May Go to Super Freak

The Brown
 CD Race #5 6 1/2f Dirt Stake
Purse $225.000 For Two Year Olds.

1 On Tap Winning Link Stables Beschizza A 120 —

This colt has been admirably consistent through his four starts but needs to step up today to take on his first black type race. An easy maiden winner from a decent draw, he has done well with wider draws recently so will relish this ace draw today and I expect him to be in it for a long way.

2 Coronado Beach Alydar Stables Garcia Mar 120 —

Disappointed in the Sanford after a good maiden win, but he was better over a longer trip in the Pharaoh when next tested at stakes level. He has been gelded recently to try and level out his form a little and at his best he should be competitive from this handy draw.

3 Creepy Hamilton D J C Racing Stables Lopez P 120 —

Claimed from a PRX maiden claimer last time it is hard to really gauge the form against this opposition but a decent work over this trip suggests he is on the improve since that narrow win.

4 Whoda Thunk It TwinTowersRacing Geroux F 120 —

It is not easy to win on debut later in the year and this son of Asset Class just managed that with a dead heat in an AQU maiden. The stable is in good form and this one has plenty of potential, so this will tell us a bit more about him.

5 Barbed Wire Riggins Racing Davila J R Jr 120 —

Bought for $45.000 after two good placings in strong maidens he went on to scrape home in his first effort for the new yard and then ran a nice race to be a close fifth in the Bowman Mill. This is a tough, consistent sort who certainly looks good enough on form to date to be a big factor in this race.

6 Hesa Super Freak Spb Racing Saez L 120 —

I love to see unbeaten horses put their record on the line and I have a feeling that this very nice son of Hollywood Freak could well make it three from three in his first attempt at stakes racing. Claimed for just $3.750 he quickly made that look like the best claim of the year with an easy win in a competitive PRX allowance and has since broken the 1.11 in a 6 furlong work.

7 Lethal Force Mb Stables Velazquez J R 120 —

Was doing really nicely with consistent efforts leading up to a tilt in the grade one Champagne last time. He ended up a tired last which either meant he was out classed or just didn’t stay the mile so back in trip today we should find out which it was.

8 California Class Arkansas Elite Court J K 120 —

Another that was doing well in overnights before going to stakes racing and another that looked like the trip was beyond them or they were outclassed, so like Lethal Force we will find out which that it was today. His works are very sharp over this trip so I would say that it was the distance that was the issue, and I would put him among the favorites to win today.

9 Fire Chase Fractious Franco M 120 —

Two of the fastest workers are in the widest two gates so it will be interesting how the wide gate will affect their chances. This one is untested at this level but in winning his last two starts and working very nicely, he looks up to this sort of class.

SUMMARY

An interesting race and as usual with these two-year-old races a very close affair. I like three here the two wide gates and Hesa Super Freak and I would be boxing those for the Trifecta.
