Champagne Flows in FL Sire Stakes – Affirmed

The FL Sire Stakes – Affirmed
7 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $300.000 Open 2 Year Olds Foaled In FL.

1st Champagne Supernova, trained by Eastern Equine

Was kept out early on but let the two wide horses fight for the lead as he took up a nice loose stalk early on. That position meant he was three wide but being out of trouble suited him perfectly and though he gave ground on the home turn he could always see the winning post and that was the key to his win. As the leaders burned out he found himself on the front and kept going well enough to hold off the closers. It was a combination of trip and position that saw this one take the win today, congratulations to the trainer who is hitting their stride at a great time of year.

2nd Eastern Townships, trained by Chili King Stables

Stalked the eventual winner throughout but Champagne Supernova got first run at the front as he was caught flat footed. That gap was enough and though this one tried really hard he could never peg it back. Easily confirmed his win in the Fager but found one too good today.

3rd Rising Light, trained by Nakamura Stables

The outside speed push threw this one forward early on but he got locked in a battle for position. As they rounded the turn he was under pressure but did pretty well to keep on for third in the end although pretty well beaten. I feared this draw would be tough to overcome and so it was.

4th Xmas Grey, trained by Barcelona Farms

Found a nice spot early on but was outpaced mid race and only really got going late on but never looked like being better than fourth. I think we may see him again at this level and he looks like the type that may apparecite a mile.

5th Butterscotch Kandy

Settled into a perfect position as the outside horses fought for a position but ran about down the stretch and found little when put under pressure. This was a disappointing run.

6th Speeding prince

Taking into the trail early on he would’ve had to have been Pegasus to win from his early position. He stayed on Ok but never got into a challenging position

7th Flawless Rajov

Taken back early on by halfway faced an impossible task. He kept on OK but was never in the race

8th Fast Moving Rock

Thrown forward by the outside speed push his destiny was sealed in the first furlong. He died very quickly with two and a half to run and finished tailed off.
