The Devil May Slay Them in ONT Fashion Stakes

ONT Fashion Stakes – Grade III
WO Race #2 6f Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $150.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.

1 Devil Slayer Maxmillion Farm Moran D 123 —

A lightly raced and progressive four-year-old, she has won 5 from 11 the last of which being the Liberty Bell where she sprinted nicely from on pace and held on gamely. Her consistency is great, her work times fast and she draws the ace which should give her a comfortable trip. A winning chance.

2 Anatolia Alabarda Stable Moran P 120 —

Generally racing in lower grade, she stepped up last time in the Prioress but couldn’t land a blow. Clearly the trainer has a high opinion and thinks she can do better so goes again here. The cheers of the SRF staff will be heard urging her on but she needs to take a big step up to make the champagne flow.

3 Daisen London Racing Wilson E J 120 —

Coming from a lower grade she had been building her form well and stepping up in each of her races which is a good sign. In her last start in the Prioress she led them up and did really well to end up beaten a length into fifth. That effort says she is ready for this grade and she could be the best three-year-old chance in this race.

4 Ginger Code TwinTowersRacing Civaci S 120 —

There is a lot of pace in this race so this closer could get a late run at them. Tried over longer trips at the start of the year she has always looked more comfortable as a sprinter, and I like her chances if the leaders go at it early on.

5 Ginger Tulip The Sidley Stud Hernandez R M 120 —

A decent sort and a black type winner last time her breeding doesn’t scream sprinter, but she seems to be happy enough over any trip. Likely to try and get on pace this draw won’t make it easy for her but she will give a good sight although, today maybe be a bridge too far.

6 Cypress Hill Code Spankys Barn Moreno O 123 —

Comes to the dirt after some good efforts on turf but 5 of her wins have come on the main track and I think this is a good switch for her. Close up in graded company on the grass she is an adaptable sort both in running style, trip and surface which is often a good sign, so I would be putting her firmly into the top three.

7 Oprah D J C Racing Stables Salles L 123 —

Well tried, she has been pretty good in decent company but has been dropped in grade recently to try and find some winning form. A little ordinary in her last three she seems to be a very one paced sort and whilst I expect her to be competitive may be found wanting in the finish. Works are good enough though and the wide gate may give her an edge at the start.

8 Sweet Jokerjoes Husbands P 120 —

7 from 11 is a very good record but she has been largely running at lower level than this. The wide gate may see her get some outside speed push and get her on speed early and with her consistent record she will be hard to beat if getting over early enough.

SUMMARY

An interesting race, but I think the older horses may have the edge here with Cypress Hill Code and Devil Slayer. I think the draw favors Devils Slayer who may slip into the stalk as the early speed goes hard at it and she may prove strongest at the end. Of the three-year-olds, well as it has been all year there isn’t much between them although Ginger Code may have the advantage of last run at them.
