NY Stallion Series – Fifth Avenue
Purse $500.000 For Fillies Two Years Old Foaled In NY.
The lucrative NY state bred series culminates this weekend in a couple of big purses for the two year olds. This one features the fillies and as with any state-bred stakes the field isn’t anywhere as deep as an open stakes race but still features some promising types. Most of the top stables breed here because of the state-bred race purses and this will end a season that has seen fierce competition among the top NY breeders.
Here is how they line up:
1 Lady Lucky D J C Racing Stables Gaffalione T
The trainer is a stalwart of NY breeding and gets a great draw with his home-bred here who may be running over her perfect trip today. A winner from the same draw of the Seeking The Ante where she had both lassitude and Luna Tick behind i feel she is good enough today. After the good win in the Seeking The Ante she disappointed from a tough draw in the Pocahontas but bounced back with a better effort in the Maid In The Mist last time when a close fourth.
2 Mishmash Mb Stables Bridgmohan S X
Clearly not one of the stable superstars but as with most of the stable runners regardless of achievement she is one of the best workers in the race. Won her maiden nicely at the second time of asking and hasn’t been too bad since having two runs on turf which were a little under par and then returning to dirt last time for a strong fourth in Allowance company. The draw is perfect for her and her works say she will be competitive but her form is a little light.
3 The Magic Box Smokey Stover Velazquez J R
An easy maiden win followed by a strong win in the Pocahontas made this one a leading fancy for the BC but a widish draw and a search for the early lead took its toll that day and she weakened into eighth. She has bags of pace and will be up there again and with this better draw and shorter trip she may well be the one from a stable in form.
4 Reasoning Mb Stables Jaramillo E
The stable gets a great draw with both their runners today and this consistent sort looks like she may be the better prospect. Three of her five runs have been on an off track but she has handled both a sound surface and the wet equally well and her run in the Maid Of The Mist last time was really solid when she was second beaten just a half length. Her works not surprisingly are very good and it would be no shock to see her get home.
5 Upstate Our Athletes Geroux F
I have a feeling we haven’t seen the best of this one yet and she is an interesting runner here. A good winner on debut she then ran a bit of a stinker in the Matron but then went to dirt to record a second win in a big ticket allowance at CD. One has the feeling she wants much further than this but if the pace is fast and she doesn’t get too far back she will be running home strongly.
6 Olga Arindel Franco M
The only maiden in the field but though she hasn’t won yet she isn’t too far behind these. She ran well enough over this trip last time and has worked well so whilst she will still be an outsider i wouldn’t be writing her off entirely.
7 Creeyatta Crocker Ggs Cedillo A
An impressive winner on debut she struggled in her next two when upped in grade but showed there is still something there with a strong finishing second in a big ticket Allowance at KEE last time. She tends to get back a little which isn’t the best thing with this new race engine and the draw wont help her much so whilst she has doubtless ability i feel today may not be her day.
8 Duck N Roll Night Mare Racing Lopez J E
She has taken four goes to break her maiden but has been pretty consistent in her efforts and improved with every run. She will have to improve again from this draw and this may be a bit soon for her.
9 Lassitude TwinTowersRacing Ryan S
Took a big ticket maiden second up and has since been in top company culminating in a fifth place finish on the BC Juvenile Fillies last time. She got a long way back that day and ran on really well at the end but benefited in a more positive ride in the Frizette the time before when a close up third. She weakened off the front when second in the Seek The Ante and i feel she is better from just off the pace which will be tough from this draw. I feel she may be the best filly in the race but she will need some race engine luck to prove that.
10 Luna Tick Asgar Arrieta F
In the car park we find Luna Tick who is far from the worst in the field but has an obvious handicap to overcome. Placed four times at this level she does deserve a change of luck and her best chance from this gate may be to go for the front and hope she isn’t contested.
SUMMARY
An even field i feel drawn to Lady Lucky because she has a brilliant draw but Lassitude, The Magic Box and Reasoning are all sure to push her all the way.
