The FL Sire Stakes Is a Good Contest, In Reality

The FL Sire Stakes – In Reality
GP Race #1 1 1/16m Dirt Stake

1 Selfless Service Wood Duck Stables Gaffalione T 119 —

Jumps up in trip here after a maiden win at four and a half furlongs and gets a great draw to try and use that speed to win this nice prize. His works since that win have been pretty good so he has every chance, but I think he may lack the experience of a few here.

2 Axon Team 7 Illusions Jaramillo E 119 —

Took the FL Sire Stakes Affirmed last time and gets in here with no penalty so must be a major win chance. The perfect draw should see him with an economical trip, and he is working well enough to be my top pick.

3 Canyon Clouds Wood Duck Stables Van Dyke D 119 —

A debut winner in October is often a sign of a good one and his recent 58 and 2 work backs that up. He went on pace in that win on this track and was pretty game all the way to the line after setting up a decent break on the field. Possibly the best of the two stable mates.

4 Party Jet The Sidley Stud Bravo J 119 —

A solid type he will have to step up in this higher grade than he is used to. A very impressive maiden winner last time when taking on this trip for the first time, I wouldn’t be writing him off as he is guaranteed to get the trip, unlike a few others.

5 Black War Axeman Perez Edg 119 —

He was running on nicely when third beaten a length by Axon in the Affirmed and on the evidence of that may improve over this longer trip. A good winner before that I would take him as the main danger.

6 Candy Fear Party Martyparty Rodriguez Jam 119 —

Two wins over this trip in his last two starts suggests he is ready to go for his first black type assignment. He was really game in getting home by a nose in a big-ticket allowance at CD last time, and he may well turn out to be the value bet in this race.

7 Profound Fury Mb Stables Davis D 119 —

Stuck out in the wide gate this one has been highly tried of late but has come up short, so the trainer went to the knife to try and find that extra zip. Campaigned on turf in his last four the question will be the surface but a sub 1.11 work on it suggests he will be just fine.

SUMMARY

A nice race with four good chances and it is hard to pick between them. The obvious one would be Axon going on his win last time, but I really liked the way Black War made ground that day to run into third, and I don’t think there will be much between them. Candy Fear Party is on a winning streak and will be there at the end as will Profound Fury which just may find his mojo back on the main track.
