Well, the race for the SAR meet title is all on and whilst these stakes races are still very important they tend to form part of that race and as such become of special interest to those in the hunt. This lightly raced filly forms a two pronged Mb assault and gets a nice draw for this seven furlongs. Twice a winner in her first three she has been in stakes races since but so far hasn’t managed to break through. Two close seconds at ungraded level means she isn’t far off a win and her works are solid for this sort of trip.

2         Love Of The Game         Night Rider Stables         Desormeaux K J

Claimed at the end of last year for $20 she has raced three times for the new owner winning once in claiming company. She was pretty ordinary when tried in the Martha Washington so there must be questions as to whether she is up to this grade. Her work times are good enough, the draw perfect but i still think she has something to find.

3         Modesta          Fractious           Van Dyke D

This filly only has the one win to her name but she still managed to find a $250 buyer on the strength of her placings in the Alexanda, the Santa Ysabel and the SA Oaks. Since those three good efforts she has been pretty disappointing but going on her 1.10 and 4 work there was no good reason for that. She certainly has the form on the board to win this but those last two efforts are hard to excuse.

4        Amuzing Code Party         Night Rider Stables         Smith M E

Bought for a dollar ninety nine she went from maiden claiming winner to stakes runner up in 6 weeks but hasn’t gone on from that in two efforts since. She is hard to weigh up but her works are pretty good and she still has plenty of scope for improvement.

5        Etive            Sccj Stables           Prat F

This filly has a great record with just one inexplicable blemish to her otherwise consistent record. She won an allowance over this trip which can be a big assist with this specialist distance and her last two efforts especially in the Jersey Shore last time suggests she is in the right race. Her 1.10 and 4 work was very encouraging and she could turn out to be another winner for the emerging sire Asset Class.

6         Steppin Out     Mb Stables        Gonzalez Ru

The second stable entry and this one may well start favorite despite her stable companion getting the better draw. After a fourth and a third in graded stakes company whilst still a maiden she became the hottest maiden in the game but then only just won her maiden showing once again how fickle the class structure at HRP can be. Beaten just a half length in the Melair Stakes last time she is still in the groove and a 1.10 and 3 work will make her many peoples choice especially with her victor that day racing in the car park.

7        Mental           Arindel                Pyfer J

The leading stable at the time of writing at the SAR meet they rely on this single entry to do the job. Working as fast as the fastest here she hasn’t exactly got a stellar record but she has run well on occasions and finished third in the Ruthless over this trip so we know she can run the seven. I am not convinced by her form but the stable is on fire and that can often translate to a horse.

8         Top Billing      Smokey Stover           Cedillo A

The Melair winner gets handicapped with the car park draw but looks the form choice on that win and two great seconds in the Eight Belles and the Gazelle. We know she does the trip and whilst she made hard work of the Melair we know she has the class but with 2Lb extra and a wide draw she will have to up her game to win this.

SUMMARY

A tight race and hard to read. Top Billing is the form choice on her last three runs but the penalty and the draw wont make it easy, Steppin Out has lots going for her but i worry about her turn of foot especially over this trip. So two good for choices who both have concerns it may pay to try a longer shot and i rather like Etive to be that surprise package.
