10 CD Day Mile Stakes (GII)
$500.000 3yo 1mile Dirt 122 lbs
The KYD isn’t the only 3yo race at CD this weekend, and we catch a full field for the Day Mile Stakes (GII), here in Louisville. I’m headed out to the far outside post and taking Indie Bread as my top selection. Just a $10.000 claimer you say? Well, he’s perfect since the hostile takeover including a nice score on the KEE turf last out, where he took the Shaker (GII). Don’t think that he’s just a grass horse or a sprinter, he won the Hedeman at a mile on the main track… yeah, NM bred stakes, blah blah… he got home in quick time and just looks like a horse that doesn’t want to lose. Let’s put Get Set Gone in the middle of things as well. That was a sharp win last out in the Bay Shore (GIII) and looks ready to run another big race here.
There’s quite a few horses that have won big stakes and were just beat up on the TC Trail, so don’t be surprised to see anything happen in this one.

Won the Hutchinson at GP to prove that he was a very sharp $12.500 claim, and was only a half length back in the Wood Mem (GII), so this one certainly seems to be able to run with the best of them. Shortens up a bit in this race, and I like that as a handicapping angle so give him a serious look.

Third in the fore-mentioned Wood Mem (GII) and closed well in that to only be a half length back. He was also third n the BC Juv Turf (GI) and may be more suited for the green stuff, but who’s going to question Mb Stables and their placement… this conditioner is always tough and you have to give this horse a chance today.

I love this filly, and when I say that, I mean I LOVE this filly – to the point that I referred to her as a “bank breaker” when the thought of a private sale was mentioned. But, you know how I feel about the girls and the boys… just don’t like it. Three wins from eight starts including the BC Juv F (GI). She can run, and I do mean run.

Did just that last out taking the Bay Shore to get back on the right side of things. He won a Cal-bred stakes at DMR last fall and had been on a bit of a dry streak, so that race was needed. Can he keep it going and make some noise here today?

Broke maiden, was third in the Withers (GIII) and then beat one horse in the LA Derby (GII) where he just didn’t seem to get going at all. Trailed through most of that one… now was that an “unknown problem” and he gets back here today? Sure could be, and he may have some odds with him as well. This one could be sneaky.

This one has struggled when facing graded horses of late but won an OptAlw race at SA in his most recent, so he will try to build off of that success and this barn knows success. Was second (DH) at KEE in the Breeders Futurity (GI) and you know Mb comes with the gun loaded. Let’s see if he keeps improving.

Lightly raced, only five starts, and has been on the board in all but one start where he was still a respectable fifth. Closed well to be second in the SUN Derby last out and looks like a horse with a lot of upside, and could improve again here today. Give him a look.

Sold for $300.000 after that big win in the Swale (GIII) and it’s been a bit tough since then. Fourth in the San Felipe (GII) then eleventh in the SA Derby (GI) where he really just didn’t lift a hoof. Obviously, his best would put in the thick of it, but he needs to turn it around in a big bad way.

Broke maiden and has been 4/4/5 in graded stakes races since then. Tired to be fifth in the ARK Derby (GI) last out, and I’m just not sure this type of competition is his cup of tea. But I’m wrong most of the time on this lightly raced types so schedule him to get his picture taken.

Won the Withers (GIII) at AQU in Feb but his last duo of starts were not much. Beat one in the TAM Derby (GII) then came back to tire and finish eighth in the BG Stakes (GII) at KEE. His best would put him in the picture, but he needs to wake up or it will be a long day at the office… again.

Won the RP Springboard Mile so maybe getting back to the flat mile distance will help him as the last three have been not-so-good. Seventh, seventh and ninth will not get you there – now those were against tough horses, but there are more of those waiting for him today, as well.

He was nabbed out of a $10.000 claiming race and it’s been nothing but Kodak moments since then. Five consecutive wins including the Shaker (GII) at KEE in his most recent. Switches back to the dirt but he’s won on everything except the parking lot and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win on asphalt.

Broke maiden but not a whole lot since. A second in the Smarty Jones is his best since then.

Has a couple of Alw wins after breaking maiden but this would be a huge step up for him.

Was fourth in the Withers and has an Alw win, so again, this would be asking quite a bit.
