4 BEL The Champagne (GI) [BC] [KYD] $375.000 2yo 1m Dirt 119lbs
There’s a lot on the line in this one, the two year olds will be looking for big steps towards the BC and KYD, but first they have to get the flat mile in today’s Champagne Stakes (GI), over Big Sandy. With past winners such as Centerpiece, Ginger Haggis, Five Fives and the like, you know this is a race that everyone wants in their catalogue.
I’m headed towards the outside posts for my choices today and landed on the far outside for the top choice, Pocantico. He’s won half of his six starts, and the biggest was his most recent race where he won the DMR Futurity (GI) by a neck over a very talented group at 10/1 odds. I don’t think you will get those odds here, but he has the speed to overcome the post and the distance looks to be in his want. I think he is the one to get past.
Right next door is a pair that went to war in their most recent and I think you have to give both of them a serious look… Never Go Raw won the FSS In Reality by a head over Incinerator, and both of them are contenders. Jinxed Authority is another that has a big win in the SAR Special (GII) and a near miss in the Hopeful (GI) so you know he has the ability, the class, and may end up being the post time favorite.
There’s a few undefeated horses, like Daniel Son Karate and Familiar Moon and both of them could be any type of horse. As always, these 2yo races can be “upset city” so let’s see how this one plays-out.
