La Troienne – Grade I
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $1,000.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.
1st Hobo Blues Alydar Stables Espinoza V
The wet track form certainly suggested this trifecta although not many people predicted this would be the finishing order. This filly has been close a few times but finally gained her grade one win enjoying the wet and getting through for a head win. After her failed attempt in the Distaff last year her trainer will be very happy with this victory.
2nd Wasted Away Mb Stables Velazquez J R
Stalked the pace and looked to go and win her race but the stamina sapping ground took away her finish and she was overtaken close home. There is no doubt this champion filly will be back to defend her BC title and after her attempt at sprinting last time and this brave effort she will once again be among the favorites.
3rd Wavy Girl Saratoga Stud Lopez P
Another with impressive wet ground stats, I was a little surprised to see her not even closer today. She won the Azeri last time on the same going in a faster time but could not produce the same finishing pace today for some reason. Still a good effort to be third at this level but one felt that today was her best chance at a grade one since her back-to-back grade one wins on 2023.
4th Jawaher D J C Racing Stables Corrales G
Stalked the lead but hated the conditions and faded.
