The Iowa Derby – Grade III
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $250.000 Open 3 Year Olds.
1st Crop Duster, trained by Barcelona Farms
Something has clicked with this gelding, whether it be the hidden improvement curve coming into effect or simply the removal of Lasix from his diet he has become a real racehorse in the last few months. Leading from the off he was left way out on his own for most of the race and never really saw another challenger, winning by four lengths. True this track had played to front runners and i have never seen this one make the running before so it may be one of those odd results but you cant fault the way he won and it will be very interesting to see how he stacks up against the best three’s in the coming months.
2nd Warrior Chant, trained by Sccj Stables
After getting three nightmare draws in a row he wasnt exactly done any favors here but was atleast able to show that he is much better than his previous three races. Keeping on well at the end the winner had gone by the time his rider had decided to mount a challenge but i think his owner will be happy with a decent second.
3rd Cube Zero, trained by Yahudi Stables
Stalked the leader for much of the race but his effort petered out a bit when they hit the stretch. Keeping on at the one pace he took third which was a promising enough effort and given a bit more time he may end up being good enough at this level.
4th King Riggo, trained by Jackrussell Farms
Has done pretty well since joining the stable as a two year old and ran another solid race closing late to be fourth here.
