The last time this horse ran this track over the five furlongs was on the old engine. That day it made all from an average pace and won in 56.69. Today with a strong early pace it settled in last and came with a late run to win in 56.61. Two completely different running styles dictated by the pace of the race, but in the end the mare ran the same time to win by a similar margin. A cleverer person will be able to deduce something from that, but what it tells a simple person like me is that this consistent mare is exactly that, a consistent mare, which is exactly what was needed in this race. Rather than pushing herself to run in any style she just ran a time she knew she could run and gained the spoils for a much-deserved win. If there is a grade one turf sprint out there that gets won in 56.6 something, then this mare will be at the front.

This turf router once again sprinted beautifully in this race but in the end the strong pace she set was always going to be tough to maintain and one of the swoopers got her. Even after this race I am confused how to categorize her, but I have long said that many horses at HRP are of similar ability regardless of trip and this certainly seems to be one of them.
3rd La Chica Gris Angelos Stable Ruiz Jo 0.45 3nk :57.01
She was a bit one paced at the end which was a little disappointing but at least she beat Great Beneficiary this time after being beaten by that filly twice. I am not sure what prevented this one from performing like she had before as she has won in better times than this over the trip running similar splits but today for some reason, she just didn’t finish her race off.
4th Empirical Avenue Z Castellano J J 14.05 41/2 :57.08
Just behind the pace this was a big effort, but she too found very little when asked to run similar times that she had won in before. As i said about The Great Enabler it was all about consistency and only one horse ran that way today.
