The Lady Of The Sod Will Love Return to the Grass

The Herecomesthebride Stakes – Grade III
GP Race #6 1m InTurf Graded Stake
Purse $215.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.

1 Fierce Competitor Mb Stables Zayas E J 122 —

Only raced the four times but already she has proven herself consistent and tough. She has plenty of track knowledge with two runs here in her last two starts, both at stakes level so there is plenty to like about her chances. An on-pace type she has just struggled at the end of her last two ending up third and second after showing early speed, and I do wonder with this draw whether she may be better sitting just behind the pace rather than gunning to try and get to the front. Lead or stalk she is a good chance for the win.

2 The Lady Of Sod Nakamura Stables Gallardo A A 122 —

She won the CAC Oaks on the turf before going for the SUN Oaks last time just two weeks ago. She flew home for a share of third that day and ran well enough to expect her trainer to have another go at the KYO qualification, but I feel it is a real pointer that despite that good effort they have snapped her back to the grass today. She looks to me with this great draw to be the best chance of a win if she has made full recovery from her efforts on the 16th of Feb.

3 Haukea High Voltage Velazquez J R 122 —

Close up to Fierce Competitor in her last two there really isn’t much between the two fillies and it will be close again today. In both cases she tracked the speed, and one would expect the same today but if the pace is strong that will open it up for a swooper to nab the both of them again. Of course, the opposite applies, and this one is proven in this grade, so you have to give her every chance.

4 Devilish Anne Red Fox Farms Perez Edg 122 —

She has been pretty consistent at overnight level but is another that will look to get up there early on, and it will be quite a tussle for early positions. She hasn’t got the form of some on paper but in her seasonal debut in a competitive FG Allowance she very nearly lasted home over this trip, so she is primed for today.

5 Fire Chief Bigking Ortiz I Jr 122 —

Just the one run on the turf so not much to go on for the form guru but her works have been pretty good on both surfaces which has probably prompted this Hail Mary entry. She won nicely on seasonal debut on a slushy TP track after being claimed from T7 Illusions in the race before and whilst it is really blind faith that sees her winning there is some talent there and it wouldn’t be a complete shock.

6 Aime La Nature Our Athletes Lopez P 122 —

Ran well to be third in the Durante last year and wasn’t too bad in the Sweet Life on seasonal debut over a trip too short which suggests to me she is up to a task like this. With lots of speed inside her though, it will be tough for her from a wider draw, but it does mean that if she doesn’t fight for an early lead, she may be able to move over pretty early which may be key. She doesn’t have the best form on paper, but it is good enough of things go her way.

7 Spanish Empire Arindel Berrios Hector 122 —

Out in the cheap seats we have the last time out maiden winner from a trainer that knows how to win good races. That maiden win came at AQU over this route, and she did it very competently suggesting there is more to come from her. She may end up with the advantage of the last run at them and that could be significant.

SUMMARY

There is lots of speed in this race which I feel opens the race up for The Lady Of Sod to get over the top late on. The small gap between races is the only thing which may stop her but we won’t know the effects of that until after the race, but if her trainer feels she is ready then they probably know her well enough to have confidence. It will be very close for second and really just comes down to who lasts the longest.
