The Lake Placid Is Anyone’s Prize as an Even Field Does Battle

The Lake Placid – Grade II
SAR Race #8 1 1/16m InTurf Graded Stake
Purse $200.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.

1 Have One On Me Nakamura Stables Hernandez R M

She was pushed pretty hard as a juvenile after winning her maiden and after failing at stakes level was eventually sold by her breeder to the current yard. She has had one race since then when hacking up in a soft LAD Allowance, the significant thing being that that was her first race on grass and she looked very comfortable. Drawn wide and making all that day she gets an inside draw today so unless the stable specifically wants her to make the running she should slot into a stalk. Either way she may be a filly that improves on the turf and should be taken very seriously.

2 Wander Mb Stables Velazquez J R

This must be redemption, a revelation, forgiveness or something because after all the wide draws this stable has been getting this is the second of two races i am writing up for the weekend where they have drawn inside with both their runners and they are next to each other. Maybe in itself that is an anomaly but one that i am sure the stable welcomes. This filly seems to run equally well on both surfaces, not unusual for HRP, but was a decent fifth in the BEL Oaks before going onto to run a very good second in the WO Oaks on the dirt. Like all the stable runners she works consistently fast and with the perfect draw today may be the form choice.

3 Tabitha Stephens Mb Stables Cedillo A

The second stable runner and pretty much the opposite of her more exposed stable mate. A winner of three from five this is her first stakes race but like all the stable runners seems to work like a stakes horse so that wouldn’t be a negative. She was bought for $125 so was never going to be just ordinary and this looks the right time to be stepping her up.

4 Glitter Bright Broken Spoke Stables Ferrer J C

There’s a lot to like about this filly and the way she has been brought through and she was impressive in handling one of those silly pace races last time when taking out the Wasted Tear Stakes. I think there is a lot more to come from her and this may be an opportunity to start on the path to better things but like most stakes races this is an even field and she will have to be on song and get favors from the race engine to win.

5 Tequa Arindel Saez L

The stable is in great form but this is one of the few that seems to be going backwards rather than forwards. She looked pretty good when taking the Sweet Life and the Appalachian earlier in the season but was disappointing last time in the Lake George and her improvement looks to have flattened out a little. There was a gap between her Edgewood third and that start so she may have just need a tune up and if that is the case she certainly has the form to run big here.

6 Scalp Spankys Barn Ortiz I Jr

Last but not least is a filly who saw her secret come out last time when taking the lake George after a career built around over nights. This barn took her out of a claimer and has taken two from two since so is clearly on a steep improvement curve. Her works are on the money and her form certainly is on the up but she is handicapped by the wide draw today which against a tough field may be her biggest problem.

SUMMARY

Well a case can be made for every runner here making it almost impossible to single out one filly to win. The safe bet would be the Mb pair as the stable tends to win when they are drawn well but there really is so little between them i wouldn’t be putting my house on the outcome.
