The Martha Washington [KYO]
OP Race #1 1m Dirt Stake
Purse $125.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.
1 Crop Top, trained by Waldo
This one looked to be trucking along quiet nicely in the early part of her two year old career winning a nice maiden and then a WO allowance before two placings in ungraded stakes races. Things fell apart a little on her seasonal debut when faced with a wide draw in another ungraded stakes she toiled after the wide gate speed put her on the pace and weakened into last. The wide draw may have been partly to blame for that effort so i am willing to give her another chance off the one gate today.
2 Christmas Robber, trained by Aer Stables
A fairly consistent overnighter she was claimed a couple of weeks ago after a strong mile work but failed in that claimer weakening off the front from a wide draw. Her works suggest there is some ability above what she has shown on the track so far and i would expect a more restrained effort today from a good draw and a much better effort.
3 Bottom Of The Order, trained by Allinthegate
She has run well enough to give her a chance here but her best form has been on turf and i am not sure she can run her best race on the dirt. She did run a nose second in the Fisher Debutante last summer on this surface though and its not a big stretch to see her running well.
4 Wild Fate, trained by Williams 9
Still a maiden after 12 tries she isnt the worst in the field despite that uninspiring record. She ran pretty well in some competitive maidens before two fair efforts in ungraded company. I dont think she can win but she wont be last either.
5 Fascinating Bottom, trained by Toppedout
Has a somewhat interesting record that reads well despite nearly half of her races being on the free track. She broke her maiden on her second start pretty easily but was sent back to free racing to gain her next win which came in an allowance at PEN. She then ran a nice fourth in the grade two Golden Rod before an impressive win in the Hut Hut Stakes. Surprisingly she went back to the free track in her next start to easily win a stakes race there to end her juvenile season. She started off this year with a poor effort in the Silverbulletday Stakes but then ran better when third in The Ruthless. She will strip the fittest in the race with two runs already this year but she is a difficult read and i am not sure she can win.
6 Dame Magnifique, trained by D J C Racing Stable
Lightly raced she was a game winner of her maiden at BEL before a couple of efforts where she looked a little less enthusiastic at the finish. I think she will go better over this trip today as proved with a decent mile work at the end of last year but it is a bit of a gamble. A definite chance and one for longer odds.
7 Southern Sky, trained by Mcl Stables
A consistent sort she has never been worse than fourth but with just the one win she may not be quite up to this grade. Having said that this isnt the strongest KYO points race and she is working well enough to put her in the race.
8 Confident Lass, trained by Calia Stable
Still a maiden after two efforts she is here purely based on a strong mile work a week ago. You can’t draw much from her two runs so far and a wide draw will make it hard for her but i do feel she is better than her form suggests.
9 Indian River Queen, trained by South Beach Racing
A winner over this trip last time out she had been consistent before that and did well enough in the FL Sires Stakes My Dear to suggest she can mix it in this grade. The wide draw wont help as she is an on pace runner but if she gets a cheap lead she may just surprise a couple.
SUMMARY
Not the strongest of KYO points races and it may me worth going outside the box in looking for the winner. I rather like Dame Magnifique as that type as well as Christmas Robber.
