AQU Race #1 $100.000 1-Mile

NY-Bred 3YO Fillies 122 lbs (plus penalties)

Track Record-1:33.67 (Omni-2004)

Stakes Record-1:35.56 (Fleeting-2021)

Hollywood needed almost every inch of the AQU stretch to run down a loose-on-the-lead Granato in the shadow of the wire to take the $100.000 May Stakes on Monday.  Completing the mile on the main track in 1:35.85, Hollywood improved her record to 4-2-0-0 with earnings of $94.450.

Granato caught a flier from the gate and went straight to the front while Hollywood, breaking from post five, was positioned about four-wide while running a couple lengths behind the leader.  Granato took the field through fractions of :23.36, :46.75, and 1:10.40 before entering the stretch with a three-length lead.

At that point, Hollywood started reducing her deficit as Granato started to tire.  Inside the final furlong Hollywood kept gaining as Granato tried to get to the wire.  It was a head-bob that separated them at the wire; however, the day belonged to Hollywood as she got her nose down at just the right time to take the victory.  Granato was simply second-best as it was another four lengths back to Killeen, who nosed-out Chatta Code for third.  Chatta Code was followed by First Cousin, Crackz, and Bobbles And Lasix.

Congratulations to Hollywood and trainer, Smokey Stover, for their victory in The May at AQU.
