Mineshaft Stakes – Grade III
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $200.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.
1st Class Edge Chili King Stables Saez L
For all this talk of a new race engine i am still seeing races where all the runners are covered by two lengths at the end so maybe whilst the start looks very different the rest of the race is pretty much business as usual. After running last in an optional claimer on seasonal debut you would be forgiven for thinking the KYD runner up from last year hadn’t trained on but as poor as that race was this one showed his true class as he out battled an even field by a nose. It is hard to get a read in a race where everything finished in a heap but lets hope this lovely son of Asset Class is back to his best and ready for a big season.
2nd Torque Converter Nakamura Stables Carrasco V R
Came from behind at a rate of knots and only just failed to over haul the winner by a nose. He keeps coming up just short in this sort of race but is getting closer to a win and i don’t think it will be far away.
3rd Crack Dab Gdp Inc Stein J
Drawn two i expected this one to race more like the winner did but after starting well enough he drifted back and had far too much to do at the end. Whether it was instructions, a random piece of AI or just plain bad luck only Gdp will know.
=4th Twilight Flame Mb Stables Velazquez J R
Yet another that was taken back off a slow pace suggesting as HRP have said people are still using restraining instructions too much. He ran home really well but many of the questions about his ability remain unanswered.
=4th Home Spirit Night Rider Stables Bridgmohan S X
Took up a good stalk early on but didn’t push on and was steadied instead, like most of the field he ran home strongly but this race was a funnily run event and i am not sure the form will be relevant moving forward.
