After leading the way at the SUN meet this trainer looks to finish off in style in the biggest weekend in the tracks calendar. This is a very consistent filly highlighted by her last four runs where she has finished second each time. This trip wont cause her problems and the draw is perfect and that put with one of the highest achieving jockeys at the track makes her a decent chance of at least some of this purse. With a couple of exceptions this isn’t a strong field so i would certainly be putting her at least third.
2 Kalthoff Repeater Spankys Barn Van Dyke D
Claimed in a maiden for just ten dollars she went on to win an allowance on this track so is clearly a bit better than a claimer. Her 1.37 work says she could be a force in this race and with the great draw she has to be respected.
3 Woo Doggie Fractious Velazquez J R
Beat Lifetime a head in a statebred stakes race giving her 2Lbs so on that form this filly looks a good bet to confirm that form today. Third in the Adirondack last year she was recently bought for $125 but she will have to start showing some improvement because her form and work times have been a little fat since that good juvenile form.
4 Dauphin Island Dog Smokey Stover Ferrer J C
Another bought from Jive Inc, this one went for $175 which it has to be said looks a little overpriced on her achievements. She made all and clung on gamely to win a statebred allowance on this track so we may see her go to the front again and we know she will be hard to get by if that happens. The filly she beat in that race was Lifetime and there wont be much between them again today.
5 Our Last Night Mb Stables Hernandez C J
She has won three from four since being bought at auction for just five dollars again from Jive Inc and when you consider that three horses that were bought from the same trainer in this race this one who was by far the cheapest has won the most. Lessons to be learned there i guess, but they are for others not me, i am more concerned about whether this filly can win her fourth from five starts since being bought. Tactics will be key here as this filly has also been an on speed sort and at the end of the day the winner will come from the horse that gets it right on the day.
6 Opaque Arindel Jaramillo E
A consistent sort she has been unfortunate to get a wide draw which may be the nail in the coffin for a one race winner. This trip is right up her street though and if the on pace horses go and cut each others throat then she may just pick them off late.
SUMMARY
Tactics in this small field will be key and if this goes like most smaller field do then it will be something wide and from midpack that will win. They may well go two by two looking at the running styles, the key will be what pace they end up running. So all in all i can only call it on form and in that case i have to go for Woo Doggie today to beat Our Last Night and Dauphin Island Dog.
