1 Monday Knight Sim Speed Stable Bridgmohan S X 118 —
Three good seconds at maiden level saw him finally break his duck last time when dead heating for his maiden win at AQU. He has spent his whole career so far at State bred level and has raced very well with possibly his best run coming at SAR. He has made the running in his last two starts so should be able to use this gate perfectly to get up on speed again and with these six furlongs within his stamina scope I would be expecting him to be in it for a long way.
2 Burke D J C Racing Stables Worrie A S 118 —
Broke through for a maiden win at SAR before a good fourth in the Aspirant Stakes last time. He has a mid-pack, closing type running style which will need some help from the race engine here, but he sprints well and is suited by some cover and from this handy gate shouldn’t have to go too far back to launch his challenge. I would be more bullish about his chances if the race was over a furlong more but even at six furlongs with a decent pace, he should still be among the favorites to win.
3 Bakari Chili King Stables Perez L E 118 —
One run, one win, you can’t get better than that especially as that win came in September against a field that included some decent types that had already run. He won pretty easily for a debutante starting at 25/1 and a strong work since then has him tagged as a useful sort. It is difficult to weigh him up against these on form with just the one run, but I have a feeling he is better than these going forward and pick him as my number one choice.
4 Knight Knight Sim Speed Stable Davila J R Jr 118 —
Three runs for two wins and both those have come at State bred level at AQU and SAR. Claimed for $35.000 before his very game allowance win last time, he certainly looks above average and gets the track specialist on his back today which will certainly help his chances. In a tight looking race, he definitely has chances.
5 Pollards Grand Mb Stables Rohena J M 118 —
Bought from Fractious for $20.000 at the auction he just got home in his maiden by a game nose at SAR and must go into the hat as a live chance. You would expect some improvement in his new yard, and it wouldn’t take much to see him getting the edge. The gate will be tricky as he will seek the stalk but if he can get over with a few more closing types inside him I would expect to see him in the finish.
6 Knowledge Is Good Martyparty Coa K J 118 —
Won his maiden well enough over this course and distance but found the seventh furlong challenging in the Bongard last time when weakening into seventh. A decent enough sort and back over six furlongs will suit but in an even field the wide gate could make the difference.
SUMMARY
Only a small field but not an easy one to find the winner. I think that possibly Bakari has the most scope here and maybe a cut above this State bred level but there isn’t much to go on. Of the rest there really isn’t much between them but on form Burke should be the main danger.
