The Opposition Feels the Burn in The Fleet Sprint Handicap

The Fleet Sprint Handicap – Grade III
OP Race #1 6f Dirt Stake
Purse $500.000 For Four Year Olds And Upward.

1st Chemical Burn Mb Stables Van Dyke D

Well, I mentioned that these handicaps inevitably go to one of three ‘hacks’, and the master of finding those hacks is Mb Stables who once again dipped into the obscure and pulled out a gem. Mb claimed this one for $25.000 after they scrambled home in a claimer at GP and it seems had to do very little to turn the pretty average sprinter into a big handicap winner. The adds weren’t changed and the work times didn’t change, but today this five-year-old gelding made it three wins in a row with his first ever stakes win in a $500.000 race. In his previous starts in stakes company at ungraded level he was beaten a total of 13 lengths in two starts but today with an air of inevitability he stormed home to win by a head.
So, what does the future hold for this gelding? Well, he was working similar times leading up to the claim and has changed hands five times in his career and never looked like the horse he was today, so it seems obvious that either the move to Mb Stables has helped him find the racecourse performance to back up his works or this was his peak. We won’t know which of course until he runs in a non-handicap, but it seems the magic touch is still going strong without the apparent skill of instructions to play with.

2nd Stormy Liberal Big Guns Stables Prat F

Coming from behind once again he left his challenge just a touch too late failing by a head to catch the winner. This is his third money finish in graded sprints, and he must find the winners circle soon.

3rd Rudy Is With Me Mb Stables Centeno D E

Using the wide gate speed push, he managed to hold the lead until the last furlong when he was caught by none other than his stable mate. A good router it seems he has a future over any trip the trainer decides to send him, and he is building a very consistent record.

4th Hollywood Cruiser Threshold Geroux F

Kept wide for most of the trip he plugged away for fourth and only lost his owner $26.000 for what was a career best effort.
