I really thought Whipped would run big after that “warm-up” race at SUN… that was not his distance, not his surface… and we had a BINGOThe Sidley Stud trained gelding got back to his old ways of winning on the grass, closing from last to first down the lane to clear the field in The Appleton at GP on Saturday.  The 5yo bay gelding, a Smokey Stover Dispersal bargain, hadn’t been the mile distance since July of his 3yo campaign, but it seemed like a distance that fit him, and this sharp conditioner had him on his toes and ready to score, today.  The final running time was a snappy 1:32.53 for the flat mile, over the firm yet non-existent inner turf course.

Prestigious Freak, from the Saratoga Stud barn, tracked the pace throughout most of this one, moved up boldly in the lane, but had to settle for the second place money, while giving a very solid effort and holding off the late charges of a pair that ended in a dead-heat for the show money… Nakamura Stables’ Boo Boo closed from well back to end on even terms with Night Rider Stables’ tiring Antimatter, both earning third place money.  Only two lengths covered the field of nine, showing just how competitive and close this one was.  Congrats to the Connections!
