The Stars Are Out in BC Juvenile Fillies

BC Juvenile Fillies – Grade 1 – $2,000.000

SA – 1 1/16 Mile – Dirt

For Fillies Two Years Old

November 3, 2023

The juvenile fillies Dead heat winner of the Sorority Stakes this year. The field is packed with graded stakes winners. Spinaway winner Freed From Desire draws PP 1. Rabbit Bay won from that slot last year. Reflex Action comes in on a two-race win streak that includes the Frizette. Lil Sunshine ships in from California where she won the DMR Debutante in her last start. No More Shots won the Sorrento Stakes in a dead heat with Made A Decision, but that was a six-furlong sprint. Neither of these fillies has hit the board beyond a mile. Sorority Stakes winner Children Of The Sod looks strong and should have no problem with the distance. Fake Sunset put together a three-race win streak this summer, but she hasn’t been back to the winner’s circle since she won the Adirondack in August. Aghast earned her chops and a trip here to the BC in the Chandelier Stakes last out. Be Yourself scored in the Pocahontas in wire-to-wire style in her last start. Purple Charger is a double graded winner with scores in the Schuylerville and the Alcibiades.

Will one of these stars shine brightest when all is said and done, or will it be one of the other talented fillies in this field?

Here’s the field:

1 Freed From Desire (The A Stable)

Won the Spinaway (Grade 1) in September, but she couldn’t repeat stretching out in the Alcibiades. Distance is a question mark.

2 Agapova (Royalty Racing)

This filly has just a MSW win, but she finished second in the DMR Debutante and the Chandelier. And she’s managed by Royalty Racing, which means look out for this one.

3 Reflex Action (D J C Racing Stables)

Back-to-back wins for this filly, the last coming in the Grade 1 Frizette. With five starts, she is one of the most seasoned entrants. Only off the board once in those five starts. Works look really strong.

4 Sitting Bulls Champ (Mb Stables)

Never worse than third in five starts, including a win in high level allowance company at SAR. Hasn’t graduated to graded yet, but with a second in the Spinaway and a third in the Alcibiades, she comes here ready to run.

5 Lil Sunshine (Threshold)

DMR Debutante (Grade 1) winner hasn’t been asked to run a mile or beyond. She has the class, but distance has to be a consideration.

6 No More Shots (Jive Inc)

As mentioned, the Sorrento Stakes winner had some trouble stretching out to the distance of this contest. Another one who has to prove it past a mile.

7 Children Of The Sod (Onlineracingclub.com)

Very consistent filly with two wins and two seconds in four starts. Hasn’t won at graded level yet, but she finished second in the Alcibiades. Does her best running up front. We’ll see if she can get there and stay there.

8 Fake Sunset (Arkansas Elite)

Adirondack winner fizzled in the Frizette. Another one with a question mark in the distance department. Mile works are solid, so we’ll see on race day.

9 Aghast (Mb Stables)

Won the Chandelier last start at the same distance as this race. Solid works. Likely to be on or near the lead early and could be there at the wire.

10 Made A Decision (Jireh)

Dead heat winner of the Sorority Stakes hasn’t been able to sustain that performance over a distance. Needs a good start and a big effort.

11 Luka Fashion (Nakamura Stables)

Third in the Chandelier. Won a NY-bred stake sprinting before that. Needs to step it up a bit to compete here.

12 War Show (Jive Inc)

Won a NM-bred stake in August and finished second in a tie in the Frizette last out. Record isn’t that impressive, but she’s beaten a few of these already, so I wouldn’t count her out.

13 Be Yourself (Mb Stables)

Won the Grade 3 Pocahontas last start off of a maiden win at SAR. Look for her on or near the lead early.

14 Purple Charger (Fractious)

Wired the field in the Alcibiades and came from behind in winning the Schuylerville and the Astoria. Very strong works. Looks fit and ready for a big performance.

Picks: 7, 3, 14
