The three year olds dominate the San Francisco Mile again

San Francisco Mile – Grade III
1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $250.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st      Miami My Amy      John Henry      Jaramillo E

I said it when i reviewed this race and sure enough we saw a three year old one two in what has a familiar look about it. the last time this horse ran a mile he struggled to break 1.35 finishing in tenth in an ungraded stakes race. Now lets roll on to a weight for age where he carried 5Lbs less than that last effort and 7Lbs less than older horses with superior form and runs a 1.32 and a half. Lets face it though that is not new, apart from last year when the three year olds just struggled a little more they have been dominant over older horses for a long time now and it looks like this year will be business as usual. Now i have said a lot but what i haven’t said is congratulations to John Henry who managed to see what many had missed and took the opportunity with both hands.

2nd     Keeper Of Time       Smokey Stover        Gutierrez Mario

Very nearly pulled off a great win here finishing strongly but just being beaten by experience in the end. Having only his third lifetime start and beating graded stakes winners is a great effort and i am sure he has a very bright future ahead of him.

3rd        Buffalo G           Nakamura Stables          Carrasco V R

Considering the weight conditions he did really well to get as close as he did, coming home strongly for third. In a handicap he would have only given the two three year old a few pounds and would probably have won, so there is that at least.

4th            Tiger Claw        London Racing             Saez L

Got fairly close up early on a strong pace and paid the price lat in the race. Only a length off though so not a bad effort.
