The Green Card nails the winner, my confusion was in full bloom and Nakamura Stables gets their seventh lifetime BC win as Jakarta gets home in front of a herd of long-shots, taking the BC Mile (GI) at 8/1 odds and handing this stable it’s third BC Mile win in the past five years… quite an accomplishment!  The final running time was 1:32.39 over the DMR turf, labeled Fast.

The rest of the purse money went to double-digit odd horses as Fractious keeps their money-grab going, taking the second spot by a nose as Diamond Haggis took the photo from Night Rider Stables’ King Luka, then a half-length to Alydar Stables’ Theegala in fourth.  An absolute cavalry charge as only four lengths covered the field of fourteen.

Sit back in your seats folks… ok, never mind, get out on the edge of that rascal, because this is going to be a good one… off and running in the 2024 BC Mile, and as they go under the wire the first time by, Giannis showing speed on the outside, as well as Diamond Haggis, then a wall of horseflesh that included Jakarta, Love Of The Derby next to that one, Prom King, and Electric Blue out widest of that group, back down to the rail for Crickets, King Luka on his flank.  A gap to Jacks Courage, outside to Hawaiian Lord, back towards the inside to Atomic Eclipse and Chagrin Falls and Theegala was the early trailer.

Around the clubhouse turn and onto the backside with five furlongs to run, Giannis continued to show the way, a length and a half to the duo of Love Of The Derby on the outside of Diamond Haggis, then a gap of two back to Electric Blue, another length to the trio of Crickets on the rail, Jakarta between horses and Oh Brother on the outside, another length and a half to King Luka, Hawaiian Lord on the outside, Prom King next to that one and Chagrin Falls to his inside.  Another length, Jacks Courage on the outside of Atomic Eclipse and Theegala was way back at the end.

Down the backside, into the far turn, past the five-sixteenth’s pole and just like that, the leaders had company… Love Of The Derby up to go a half-length in front, Giannis along the rail, Diamond Haggis between those two, and the were clear by three lengths.  The trio of Electric Blue on the rail, Oh Brother to the outside and Jakarta between the pair, then a gap to Crickets, Hawaiian Lord on the outside, King Luka on the inside with Prom King and Chagrin Falls between that pair, then a gap to Jacks Courage, down to the rail for Atomic Eclipse and Theegala continued to be the back marker.

Now into the lane and nearing the furlong marker, Diamond Haggis was done playing around and kicked clear by a length and a half, Love Of The Derby to his outside, Jakarta now let out a notch and responding, Oh Brother down the center of the track, Giannis looking weary along the inside Electric Blue next to that one, King Luka being asked for more, Chagrin Falls down the center of the track, Crickets, Hawaiian Lord out wide then Prom Queen, Theegala trying to find some late foot, Atomic Eclipse and Jacks Courage.

As they neared the sixteenth pole, the closers turned on the heat in a big big way… Jakarta in full flight moved up on Diamond Haggis and went right on buy… a host of others were coming fast but the wire was coming up faster, and as they hit the line, Jakarta was clear by three quarters of a length and the win was his.  Diamond Haggis hung on by the narrowest of margins to secure the place, a nose to King Luka in third then another half length to Theegala… quite an impressive closing move to get any part of this one.  Another neck to Oh Brother in fifth, Hawaiian Lord sixth, Jacks Courage seventh, Chagrin Fall eighth, Love Of The Derby ninth, Electric Blue tenth, Prom King eleventh, Atomic Eclipse twelfth, Crickets thirteenth and Giannis tiring to be last of the fourteen.

Jakarta is a gray six-year-old gelded son of Killmonger, out of the Charlemagne mare, Shes No Allison.  He was bred in California by Patterson Stables, and Nakamura Stables acquired him via private purchase back in Jan of 2022.  This was his seventh lifetime win from thirty-nine starts, his second win of the season, and he now has $3,748.200 in earnings.  Congrats to the connections
